Sat 5.17---ACH
Awoke to a beautiful morning and took off for the Crest. At the base by 7:00am. Saw one rider coming down, otherwise some locals at Newcomb's already, about 6 bikes. Had a coffee and came back down; no LEO's out yet, BUT:
Several Suicide Squirrels, one Suicide Snake basking in the Sun and some loose rocky sections here and there...several cyclists climbing on the lower section.
Will most likely return this evening at 7pm, and again, 7am on Sunday.
Gusduc and I had a lovely peddle around the hills of Palos Verdes this morning. Roads were clear and steep. [laugh]

I was up there today too. I haven't ridden ACH for over a year. I saw that Suicide Snake! Stopped at Newcomb's for a quick bite.
Freakin' hot out there today.
Okay Smarty Pants (BadDog), I rode a Norco CCR--yep, it is Canadian. And for the record, I only ride two things fast, my Ducati and my Norco CCR.
Hello Joe, thanks for a nice thread--apparently most of the cool kids rode motorcycles today, the rest of us provided our own motor [cheeky]
ride + bike + motors oops.... engines, people [roll]

I sat in bed with my leg up and played mario cart

PVE...........22 miles of rolling roads............. no [leo]..............lots of sun & good company in the form of GregP [thumbsup]
Saw a guy on a Honda Rebel.... he must have been tiny because it looked normal [laugh]
Btw we were on the bicycles again as we couldn't afford to buy gas & join JC on ACH.......... good news is we made a full ride without a flat or me taking a pit stop at the fire station [cheeky]
Sun 5.18 ACH 7am
Picture perfect ride up.
Watched the AMA race at Newcs for a bit, had some chow and headed back down to find a LEO steady on duty by 8am...thank God for hand signals from the locals..
Slow ride down, you can't win 'em all...
I heard that GMR was open again after about a month or so closure due the Mt Baldy fire. So I decided to check it out. Met up 3 other buddies late afternoon yesterday and we started up through Azusa and made our way on GMR. It was actually pretty clean for being closed for a few weeks. Great weather!!!!!!
Had a long lunch with some coworkers today. This was our route (i think):
Office, PCH, Topanga, Fernwood, Saddle Peak, Schuren, Piuma, Malibu Canyon, PCH, Malibu Inn for Lunch, back to Malibu Canyon, Mulholland, Stunt, Saddle Peak, Tuna, PCH, back to work
PCH is cut up and not fun for approx 3 miles.
The usual suspect roads were all relatively clean.
A few LEOs here and there, especially around Bu Cyn and Mulholland area
Tuna Cyn SUCKS - my wrists hurt and I was so bored I was considering driving into a tree just to spice things up.
All in all, a nice way to get paid.

Thirty Three
Saturday June 7th
thinking about the ride in 4 sections...and remember, if/ when you see semi-dump trucks hauling, they will be in groups of two!
the first section before the tunnels is clean, BUT then there is posted a traffic signal that comes up quick shortly after the tunnels, it's a one lane timed light that takes up to two minutes...it comes up VERY fast, so mind yourself after the tunnels.
after the ranger station, section 2 is good, (this is SteveG's favorite section) but here the descending lane has it's dirty parts. lots of blind rights, the shrubbery has grown up a bit in the spring and makes it difficult to see cyclists that are climbing, and seeing through the turns. most of this section is smooth as it has been repaved. THE CATCH here is that the new repave has DUG OUT reflector "holes" in the middle of the road...(*reminder* :) stay loose on the bars if you hit that shit for any reason).
section three, after the repave ends, the topside to the crest is bumpy and at times patchy, but also clean...
section four (after the crest), down to the fast backside all the way to Tom Wolfe's place is the usual...very fast, but a couple of sections where climbers and hikers pull off the road...very clean, some limited visibility due to shrubs, but fun as all hell.
good times, guess the gang will be rolling thru there next weekend...oh, btw, not one LEO, not one other bike at Tom's...and the weather was perfect, pretty windy up at Tom's though and a bit cooler than expected...
Thank you, Joey.
I'm scheduled to be there tomorrow morning.....
[thumbsup]
