Title: Ducati fuel tank / seat cowl -- which looked the best?
Post by: MotoCreations on May 05, 2009, 06:18:32 PM
(note: this question will make sense in a few months -- hopefully MotoGP/ Indy.  We are just doing a 3rd pass on coachwork ideas before we build -- and thus this post.)

What is your favorite Ducati fuel tank / seat cowl shape combination?  Be it 50's, 60's, 70's classic, racing, jellymold or current. (doesn't matter if single or v-twin engined)  And a picture thereof?

And yes -- the Monster tank / seat is cool!  (especially given this forum)  But I've already built a Miguel Galuzzi inspired creation from his masterpiece as well as a Tamburini inspired creation based upon the 916 tank/seat shapes.

Love the sport classic tank thats part of the fairing, like the MH900

as far as the seat cowl goes, i like the sport classic tails a lot.

The '72 Imola fairing & tank.

But I prefer the '70s 900ss seat cowl.

And what Pedro posted is definitely the New Hotness...

I have always liked the 70's tank shown above, I think that tank with more of a Manx flare to it would look cool. As for the rear cowl, I like them small and round like the hopped up monster above. The wind screen fairing always looks like an after thought on these bikes. I know that it is pure function but I think it could contain some style as well. My opinion of the fairing shown on the 900 above would be to "abreviate" the faring, make it smaller, sleeker, less overwhelming to the rest of the bike. Having a smaller faring will make it look racier, even if the function of the piece deminishes due to design. After all you are building a race bike...... Right?

I've always loved the '79 Hailwood 900.
Gorgeous tank/seat shaping... Minus that monstrosity of a rear fender, of course:

I'll also probably be the only person to say the '88 851 Superbike too...
