I've had my 02 620 for a few years now and i dont think this light has ever come on, even after running out of gas in the middle of no where [roll]
my tank is off and is getting painted at the moment. Since it's off what could be the issue of the light not working, where do i look or replace ?
cheers.
On the bottom of the tank near the back is a large nut. There are some wires coming out of it. That is both the low fuel sensor and electrical feed for the fuel pump. If you can get that out you can take it to Ducati and ask them to test it. You will probably need to get inside the tank to disconnect the line from the fuel pump, may need to remove the fuel cap assembly to do so.

I did undo this nut, and pulled out the long part attached to it, i noticed that the wires are bare in spots not covered by the sheeving. I"m okay with it not working if it's a hassel to remove test replace. but the fuel pump seems to be working okay. Can i just put electrical tape over the bare parts of the wire ? Or that shrink wrap stuff ?
No! Those wires are immersed in gasoline all the time. I don't think you want bare wires in your gas tank. You can't guarantee that any tape or heat shrink will hold in there. Sounds like it's time for a new uint.
Go to the Ducati site and download the exploded parts views for your bike. Go to the tank section, if that looks like more than you want to bite off then bring it in and have the shop do it. You may not have planned to spend money on this but don't cheap out on the fuel system, play it safe and get it fixed.

So sections of Bare wires immersed in gas is bad ? [bang] fing f... this low side is costing alot.. hahah
Since every thing seems to be coming out of the tank regardless, should i replace the fuel filter too ? I have 10,000 miles on the bike.
For the price it would be foolish not to replace the filter while you're right there.
Do you know if the Napa fuel filter # 3032 will fit in my bike 02 620 ?

It works fine.
It might be a loose fit in the clip inside the tank, if your tank has one, but don't worry about it.

After looking at the parts view it's number 5 (Low Fuel Sensor ) that has the cuts/ bare parts of the wire. It doesnt look like this does any other fuction other then the fuel sensor. If i keep it disconnected there will be no power running through there and no risk to the fuel system? ( i know the light wont work but it never has and i'm okay with that ) Just looks like a nightmare to get in there an unclip the wires? I'll price one out though, if it's cheap enough maybe i'll try it.
If your bike is injected, which I think it is, you cant disconnect the wires or the bike won't run.
