Title: GPR Pipes?
Post by: jagstang on May 17, 2008, 12:43:31 PM
So, I was about to pull the trigger on a used set of Arrows from a guy on TOB right before the switch, and now he won't respond to my emails.  So I start looking at other options around the net and found these at OnCycles in the clearance section:

http://www.oncycles.com/catalog.asp?department=clearance&product=1461 (http://www.oncycles.com/catalog.asp?department=clearance&product=1461)

They're cheap, look so-so, and I don't know anyone who has them.  In fact, I've never seen them installed on a bike besides the one GPR uses for it's photos.  Worth a shot?

I'd say it must be worth a shot at that price. Pictures are of CF, but the offer is for titanium, right? The cans look great, but the pipes have to be ceramic coated or otherwise hidden - 'cause they look worse than homemade?
A while back I considered the carbon fibre slip ons for my S2R 800 '07, but all the potential problems with any aftermarket system other than Termignoni for the Euro3 engines put me off. The low price still bother me compared to the expensive Termignoni I ended up with. So, if you're able to modify with PC and such (I'm not) - go for it!

You can find videos on Youtube if you search GPR and Ducati.  There's a vid of GPR's on a 695 that comes up all the time.  There are some other bikes with GPR as well but I think they're Jap 4 bangers.

I ordered a set last week that was supposed to get here yesterday, but now they say will be here Monday.  Anyway, from what I can tell the GPR's are supposed to be pretty high quality with good fit and finish.  I think they sound OK based on what I've seen on youtube.  At one point there were some people on TOB who bought the GPRs and I remember good reviews from them.  The only issue was fitment on bikes with tail chops, but that's with any exhaust really.

Also, see this thread http://ducatimonsterworldwide.org/index.php?topic=1795.0 (http://ducatimonsterworldwide.org/index.php?topic=1795.0) for thoughts on titanium vs. stainless.

I've got their CF low pipes, and the finish and sound are quite nice.  When you consider the price, they are even nicer.

+1.  There are some slip-ons that cost that much.

I have the Ti high mounts and can say that these are of good quality and sound. I replaced my low mount Remus Ti with these, due to some rash and the fact that I wanted high mounts...good overall, great price.

helped w/the install for elTristo... the hangers are a bit... odd... but it's a snap to line up and such.

they look and sound really good, to boot

Well, I guess if people have had good experiences with their products, they're worth a try.  Especially at that price.  Here they come...

UPDATE: Free shipping, oh snap

I like the sound of these cans, but the shotguns for the S2R are just too long, just like the Termies... Can't handle the length, especially with a tail chop...

I have the Ti highmounts and I like them.  They sound very good, and look good....compliments wherever I go (which was true before these pipes on, though!  [laugh] ).  The Ti does hold onto fingerprints really easily, but a quick rub w/ a microfiber takes care of it.

I just got mine and am in the process of putting them on.  The instructions leave a little to be desired since there are a few parts that I don't know what to do with.  Hopefully their purpose will become clear as I go.

Haha, I'm not sure I would call these instructions!  But the pieces do show their place as you go along, it's not too tough.  Let me know if I can help you out with anything!

I thought that I'd be nice and call those instructions lol.  I figured  everything out except these

I got excited when the box came
(http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2089/2506293657_3345c36954_m.jpg)

Everything looked good and came well packaged
(http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2355/2507122032_d7cc89e108_m.jpg)

I looked in the end and thought, ohhh, that must be loud
(http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3225/2507124292_c9de696438_m.jpg)

First thing was to put the rubber on the bracket.  They weren't all the same length, so I tried cutting them as even as I could
(http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3076/2507122180_7026f79fd7_m.jpg)

Then I figured out what the instructions were talking about when it mentions the 'aluminum thickness'.  That's these things
(http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3246/2507122328_ede640eccf_m.jpg)

You have to take the peg brackets off and install the spacers like this
(http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2058/2507122486_0be4705c37_m.jpg)

Then there's little foam deals with yellow backings that go inside the frame hangers
(http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3263/2506297469_6335fc4e55_m.jpg)

It took me a second to figure out the way the hangers went but they bend "backwards"

They do stick out too far, but they sound sooooo good.  As soon as I figure out how/where to post videos I will.  These sound in-freakin-credible.  It took me two seconds to decide that these are worth every dime, probably more.

I do have two problems with the install.  Well three counting the rubber sections that I didn't use.  First, with the spacer in, the bolt that used to secure the ground isn't long enough so I need to figure out another way to connect it.

The other problem is that the pipe touches the peg bracket on the left side.  Probably not a big deal.

Overall, the istall was straight forward and pretty simple.  Took me probably 2.5 hours going slow and taking pictures.  I can't stress how good these sound.  There is a real bass rumble to them that I didn't know this bike was capable of.  It sounds GREAT.  If you don't have a system already, go buy these now.  They are that good.  BTW, I bought the Stainless Round Hi Mounts

I got the oval titanium low mounts about a month ago, and I love em! Mine didn't come with instructions, but I just used the pics from the GPR website to do the install.

Fit and finish are great, and, as expected, it's quite a weight savings compared to stock. They're LOUD (in a good way) above 6 or 7k rpm, so now I wear earplugs. I didn't know anything about GPR before coming across the deal on oncycles.com, but a deal like this is hard to pass up. Just from browsing through their site, I got the sense that they know what they're doing and sponsor quite a few pros, but they just happen to be a pretty small company; I guess not everyone can be as large as Termi or Arrow. If money wasn't an issue, I'm sure I would've just gone and gotten Termi's, but this was just too good of a deal! ;D

Agreed!  My video really doesn't do them justice, but I still think that they sound at least as good, probably better than the big name exhausts.

I bought the low mount CF round slip-ons from oncycles in mid-March and was surprised by the fit and finish of these pipes.  Mine didn't come with any instructions and it took me all of an hour to install them.  I had no problems at all (except for the rubber on the pipe hangers).

I had CF low mount oval pipes that were a Remus/Termi racing collaboration that sounded incredible.  These pipes sound even better.  They are quite loud, but in a good way.  Well worth the money. I didn't like the badges on the pipes, so I pulled them off before I installed them.

I just picked up an '05 S2R 800 and the previous owner had just installed the full Ti GPR system.  I think it sounds awesome.  I took the bike over to a friends place who is a Harley guy and he was very impressed w/ the sound of the GPR's.  I'll try to shoot some pics this week and post.  They don't seem to sit just right and look nice w/ the rest of the bike.

I got a set of stainless round low mounts deliverd yesterday, just getting them on now.  ;D
They look great, very nice quality - no instructions at all. But it seems pretty straightforward, I'm not sure what those 4 black rubber tubes are for though?

Any issues fitting these to a 96 Monster?  The page lists it as an 01-03 or something.....

Oncycles HAd different listings for different years/models, but I'm not sure what's left. I ordered what I thought were the right highmounts for my '02 620. When they came in, they were wrong. I called, and found out that the set I ordered went to '03+ 600-750. When I asked the girl if I could exchange 'em, she told me "No, you could put them on ebay." I put them on my bike anyway. they fit acceptably.
It would be a really good idea to call your order in, and make sure they're the right ones.

I can't figure out what the little rubber tubes are for either.

the best me and elTristo fig'd out was that they might be sleeves for the springs...

don't recall if we used them or not.

they are sleves for the springs that hold the pipes in place

That was a good purchase, thanks DMF for the link.  [thumbsup] I'm glad I didn't pass it up @ $280 shipped because it looks like the round stainless low mounts are sold out now too. I think the stainless lows look great on my red 620, it's a really nice brushed stainless finish that balances perfectly with the finish of the forks. Even the red in the decals matches. And they sound really sweet too, a nice low bass rumble at idle that just rips when rev'd, about equal in volume to the stock cored pipes I had but meaner and bassier.  [evil]

i also bought the same ones for my 2001 600 and decided that i did not like the way it was mounted so i came up with my own way so it does not just clamp to the frame. I also decided that it was not much louder than my cored ones so i took them apart removed all the the packing wrapped the core with some header wrap, secured it with wire and put it back together and now it sounds amazing  [beer]

one bolt is where the stock heat shield goes and the other is on the old exhaust mount hole

I did almost the same exact mount on mine, mostly because i did not like the empty screw holes where the old exhaust mount bolted into;
