Title: Is there a trick to gtting the db killers out of termis?
Post by: dbran1949 on May 07, 2009, 02:14:30 PM
I put the db killers in my termis a few months ago. The bike is just too quiet now, plus by the look of the collection of buckyballs on the tips the bike is running way too rich.

So I remove the the hex screws holding them in last night, they won't budge, reached in with a pair of hefty long nose pliers to grab the little cross bar, no luck.
Drove to work this morning hoping the vibration might loosen them a little, no help

Is this where I sacrifice a broom and use the handle to pound the baffles out from the inside?

Probably not the most efficient way, but I removed mine from the rear with vice grips and a hammer.  Clamp the vice grips on the baffle flange, then bang on it with a hammer, curse a little, bang some more, twist, pull, curse, repeat.  When I was done, the flanges on the baffles were a little out of shape, but they were fixed easy enough.

YUP! It was a bit of work but I removed the cans from the pipes and then I placed a broom stick in opposite end and simply knocked em out.

Easier way would be a slide hammer with the appropriate tip attachment on it. You can rent em at Kragen's or the like for peanuts...

You've had 'em out before, right? Mine were tack-welded at the allen bolt when I first got them, and getting them out the first time was quite a bit more difficult than after they were broken free.

Yes mine were originally not installed. I put them in originally because I thought the bike was too loud, but now it's too quiet, and running way too rich.

I am going to pull the cans and tap them out from the inside
