Title: Marving Midpipe Fitment
Post by: Darth Paul on May 09, 2009, 08:27:36 AM

I've put the Marving mid-pipe on my '07 S2R 800 and I'm not quite sure if I got the darn thing on right.  The instructions that came with it are a joke and I can't seem to find any other information.

The pipe only came with a single screw/nut yet there are two holes that look like can be used to connect to the bike.  The width is narrower than the stock udder-pipe so I'm confused as to what is the right way to connect it.

Rigth now I have it connected on the right side of the bike:

But not the left side (the picture doesn't show how the hole is about a 1/2" farther than what appears to be the matching hole on the bike)

Is this supposed to look this way?

If anyone can explain how this is supposed to be I would greatly appreciate it!

I can't really tell from the pic, but I believe you are missing a small exhaust hanger piece from the left side. On the right side of the bike you have it attached to a small exhaust hanger that attaches to the engine. You should have an identical hanger on the left side.

+1, there is a hanger piece on both sides of the bike. it has a rubber thingy on it (technical term?) to absorb shock.

Yes the hanger piece is taken off, but even if it is there, there's another 1/2" or so before place to mount it to the midpipe and it only came with one screw/nut/washer combo and not two.  And by 1/2" I mean along the width of the bike like you're looking at it from the front.  This thing just isn't as wide as the stock midpipe.  There's only enough hardware to mount it on one side.

Does anyone have any pics of a properly installed one?

Hmmm...the pic from Monsterparts looks like the exhaust is mounted directly to the engine on the right side of the bike (i.e. hanger removed).

If you mount the right side tab outside the rubber'ed hanger - maybe even bend the tab a bit - would that bring the whole thing enough to the right, to connect with a second left side hanger? Just an idea ???

My experience is with the Quat-D midpipe and not the Marving, but I had a similar problem when fitting the midpipe on my s2r1k.  It took a lot of wrestling with the pipe to get everything to line up.  I mean a couple of hours of wrestling.  You probably already know this, but in case you don't...  when assembling the pipe components, leave everything loose while fitting it up, then start tightening things a little at a time.  You may even have to use some muscle, or a hammer, or a crow bar to get things to line up properly.

For what it's worth, my midpipe has flanges that connect directly to the engine bosses without a separate bracket.  Hopefully, a marving user will chime in, but from the first picture it looks like you don't need that part, and you could just wrestle the pipe into place on both sides with some muscle.
