Yikes! I was coming home from a friend's baby shower today and was stuck in moderate traffic. I had the clutch in on 2nd gear (almost about to shift to 1st) coasting to a complete stop when I heard the engine die and saw the oil light turn on.
I was like oh shit! and hit the starter button right away. It fired right up and I shifted down to 1st and accelerated.. It was fine after that. This was the first time it happened.
Let me back track..
Before I left the shower, I noticed by bike dipping really low in the RPMS for a split second and then idling like it normally does.. It only happened once. My friend even commented on the sudden drop in RPMS.
Any thoughts?
It happened to me a couple times on my 695 last year - after exiting the freeway, RPMs dropped and the bike stalled. My mechanic adjusted the TPS and it's been ok since.
the oil light is lite up if the bike isnt on i believe. (try turning on the bike without running the motor and youll see the lights that are on no matter what). as for the later, that hapened a lot when my bike was relatively new and had the stock fueling. after it broke in it occured very very rarely and only when it was cold, and after the RB3 install, it never happened again.
This has only happened to me when I didn't warm the bike up enough or turned the fast idle off to soon.
If this was the only time it's happened and it started right up afterwards I wouldn't be too concerned.
i think it's been said that the TPS on the 696 is easy to reset.
cycle the key from off to on 3 times without touching the throttle or fast idle.
the other thing.. could you have bumped the kickstand? can't remember when it cuts the bike out, but if that switch was tripped or maybe is loose, it could cause the bike to cut out.
and hey... just realized who wrote this... nothing happened to the tires right? how long of a ride was it? i'm checking up on you now ;)
Thanks guys. From the start of the ride to the incident location was roughly 4 miles averaging 40 mph. That's plenty of time for warm up. I was at 3 bars on the temp. It was pretty hot yesterday.
I will definitely keep an eye out on the kick stand switch.
Raux, don't worry lol. I only put 12 miles on.. Probably will add another 6 tomorrow riding to the shop. [evil] [thumbsup]
