Ok, so I've decided it's time to just bit the bullet on rearsets, perblem is a lot of them say they are only for the 2000+ monsters. Now I thought the mounting location for the rearsets on the new frame was in exactly the same place, and the stock rearset brackets were interchangable between frame styles. Is that wrong?
Is there any reason the rizoma rearsets, just for example, wouldn't work on my '97 even though they are listed as 2000+?
And it just occured to me, the frame change happened in 2002, why do they list these as 2000+?
Justin
I don't see why not.
The Monster didn't get the ST style frame until '02 (?) except for the S4...so a 2K has the hoop like yours I think.

'00 and '01 have the hoop, '02 doesn't.
the hole spacing on the frame is the same up until the S*R chassis. Rearsets made for 851/888/900SS will also fit. Stock 851/888 brackets bolt up nicely but you have to come up with pipe brackets on your own.

Oddly, Rizoma used to advertise their rearsets for all the DSS Monsters. Dunno why it ever changed. It would be nice to hear somebody buying them and posting up the results so there's a definitive answer.

The SS brackets put the pegs at the wrong angle, and 851/888 rearsets are really hard to come by.

agreed, but you may be able to find some aftemarket versions someone has sitting around in their garage.
They are all the same ,so everything from 94-2002 will fit

Yeah, I figured that, my question was more if the 2002+ ones will also fit, I think they will, but I can't confirm. Also, why does rizoma label theirs 2000 and up? Wouldn't that mean it would fit all models then?
If it's for a DSS bike it will fit.
Cuz Rizoma is wrong? ;D

I have thought about it and i know the answer
I is because of the different sidestand ,the older monsters uses the same hole as Rizoma does for there rearstes

Very bad picture but it shows what i mean
Which is utter nonsense, I just converted my sidestand, it was a piece of cake.
Get new style sidestand bracket, and voila, you are good to go. Supply your own M10x25 bolts.

Or cut down the space Rizoma uses to accomidate the side stand as well.
Well I figured this was the answer. Thanks guys.

:-[ :-[ :-[ if Rizoma would said that the rearstets would fit a pre 2000 monster and someone would buy it and had also had to buy an other bracket what would happen
The buyer would be pissed and would open a topic about this
I know that it is easy to get an other bracket ,but some people make a lot of noise when something like this happens
And topic starter wanted to know why the where listted as 2000+ ,i had the answer ,and i don't like the "this is utter nonsense" remark

I don't think that was a shot at you. Good work on figuring out what the difference is. I think he was saying Rizoma should just note what it takes to fit a pre-2000.

^^^ Exactly.
?? I don't know why you don't like that remark, its directed at Rizoma and their decision to change the product listing for their rearsets and they deleted a spacer from the kit - it wasn't directed at you, relax.
just installing rizoma rearsets now -- looks like i'll need to get a new sidestand bracket [bang]
why isn't there a 24-hour ducati-parts store in my area? or just one open between 10 pm and 2 am when i do all my work [coffee]
scratch that -- side stand went on just find with a little elbow grease. rear sets look sweet. only problem i'm having now is i can't get the back break on, but i never use the back break anyway...
rear brake master cylinder? attach before mounting rearsets to bike.
okay, so i LOVE the way the Rizomas look, but i have a problem on each side. the clutch side first:
how much better does that look than stock? a billion? yeah. but the idiot light for the side stand now does not turn off. it stays on. even if the side stand is clearly up. not sure that matters at all, but there it is. much bigger problem from the brake side:
so, like i said, the rear brake totally doesn't work. and i totally don't care. i'll get it fixed some day, but i don't ever use it ever. much worse than that is that the brake LIGHT now doesn't work. at all. it doesn't even work as a running light. it just gives me these crazy, random flashes. it's a vizi-tech light and was awesome before this:
sweet, right? but i think i need to finally break down and take it to the mechanic. or maybe bernard can tell me what's wrong with it. probably one of the two aforementioned issues though...
Sounds like your rear brake light activation pin is not oriented properly.
There's no way to fix your sidestand light - that's just the nature the older style sidestands that use the parallel-to-the-ground mounts instead of the semi-vertical mounting orientation and its very different side-stand idiot-light activation.
