Title: One bad motha BMW
Post by: Monsterlover on May 12, 2009, 04:55:14 PM
s1000rr

A quote from the duc-triumph-ktm-bmw dealer (the owner)

"Coming to dealerships in the U.S. in Jan 2010. Supposed to be approximately $14000."

Pics-specs-vid here --> http://s1000riders.org/forum/showthread.php?t=27364 (http://s1000riders.org/forum/showthread.php?t=27364)

193 brake horse power, user defeatable ABS, and traction control.  It'll need it.

That's oh shit territory.

Corser, not Xaus -- unless you're thinking of another one, this is Phillip Island

For the most part I think it is a badass looking bike.  However, I think the BMW stylists just can't help themselves.  They just have to do stupid shit with the headlights.

Because that's all you see when it is on the lift in the service department where it will spend most of its time.

Not sure why you say this about the S1000RR.    ???

BMW is quoting the S1000RR at 455 lbs wet.  As a benchmark, the 2009 Honda CBR1000RR ABS is 462 lbs wet.

Title: Re: One bad motha BMW
Post by: Triple J on May 12, 2009, 10:09:59 PM
From the BMW website:

Dry weight of 404 lb. 450lb wet with full tank, 455.3 wet with full tank and ABS

Still not as good of a power to weight ratio as a 1098R...but not that far off, and a hell of a lot cheaper. Too bad it's fugly.  :'(

The specs I saw showed 450 lbs without fuel and if it is anything like their other specs even that is likely optimistic.

Why is the 1000RR the benchmark if the 1098R beats it by 50lbs?

probably because of the rumors that it'll compete (pricewise) with the japanese bikes, not the $40k 1098R.

Indeed.  During the early press events, BMW execs indicated that it would be priced within ~10% of the literbikes from the Big 4.   This has held true in Germany, where the S1000RR is priced only 250 Euros more than a comparable Yamaha R1.

Pricing in the States is always different (lower) than in Europe, but I expect that the BMW will have an MSRP in the range of $15k (or even less for a bike without all the options).  That's much less than half the price of a 1098R.

It's the only inline 4 I'd have.  BMW knows a thing or three about making lots of HP out of 4 cylinders and for $14000 I'd say it's a relative bargain.

What BMW learns on the track will make it to production too.  I look to see Troy and Ruben doing better towards the end of the season.  They are holding there own pretty well now for it to be a brand new bike and all.

Looks like a pretty serious scoot to me. I'd love to know what it's like to have 190 HP on tap. [thumbsup] [leo]

What, are the side vents asymmetrical too? It's like they can't decide between two designs, so they just use both!

Yep, that will look good parked next to my 1986 Honda Civic! Yep, I had to let you all know that I'm a baller...  [cheeky] Some of you may get it. ;)

The only thing I like about the bike are it's headlights.  It looks like a Honda with an Aprilia swingarm from one side, and it has a hint of Triumph tiger on the other.  Not all that perdy.

I like it.  Better than the transformer referenced bikes that are lining the showroom floors at the moment.

Hopefully a less powerful option will be available ( and still look as great!).   [thumbsup]
