Title: Wobble=bearings?
Post by: VisceralReaction on May 13, 2009, 09:07:32 AM
I have a wobble in my bars at 50mph. Specifically on decel, at least it's more pronounced on decel.
Been trying to figure it out.
I noticed a clunk in the steering stem and wondered if the bearings going out could
produce a wobble at a certain speed. Any ideas?
It's an excuse to upgrade to tapered bearings anyway.

If the steering head bearings are loose/worn, it can lead to instability.

What year and model, and how many miles on the bike?

It's on me 05 ST3 with 21K on the clock.

On most of the street bikes I've had, wobble on decel has been linked to a worn front tire.  My tires tend to scallop a lot, I brake real hard going into turns, and when I put a fresh front on, the wobble usually went away.
