So...I've been waiting for my new bar end turn signals to come in from Motowheels. I ordered the signals, wire harnesses, and the little mirror adapters. I got that little FedEx slip yesterday because I wasn't home when they tried to deliver. I tried to call and pick them up from the facility last night, but was told I could only schedule a pick-up for the next day, so I decided to leave the slip back out on my door with my signature on it (bad move). I live in an apartment complex, so the delivery guy just leaves stuff out by the mail boxes, and I've never had a problem. Well this time I did. FedEx shows the package as delivered and my slip is gone, but no package. Some mother make the beast with two backser must have decided to take his/her chances and steal a box full of unknown product(s). I really don't know what to do next, I used my bank card for the order, so I don't know that I get any protection based on that (like with a credit card). Does my renters insurance cover something like this? What about my apartment rental company? Just need some advice as to how to recoup some of this loss...make the beast with two backsing Pissed!
Damn man, sorry to hear...........that's one of the major things I am paranoid about as they leave packages at my downstairs door right on the street basically. Try the protection route via your card.
Sorry to hear that.
You could call FedEx and ask them for a copy of the document you left taped to the door. If they don't have it, then they'd be liable for the insurance on it. Thirdly, you could contact motowheels, because they're the ones that will lose out if you go and cancel the credit card payment. They might have some leverage and be able to get the money out of FedEx.
You can also call your credit card and ask what happens to stolen merchandise en route. That might be covered .
You might also want to post a note at your apartment complex. Someone might have "thought" the package was theirs and when they opened it discovered that it was useless to them. They might be willing to give it back.
Have you checked with your apartment manager? He/She might have picked up and have it waiting in the apartment/office/wherever they keep stuff like that.
Again, sorry. Sucks.
Damn, that's the worst feeling when you have something stolen from you.
I've never lived in an apartment, always a house, but I've still always have things shipped to my work.
I'd call your card company first, and possibly file a police report. Which may be necessary for any claims made.
Go dumpster diving. They probably chucked it when they found out it was useless. :P
Damn dude, I hope everything works out.
I was worried today because I knew the exhaust I paid 600 for was going to get delivered and there was an hour window when no one would be home. Luckily it game 5 minutes after I got home.
u signed a waiver! lol
you could try the personal property insurance routes, but i'd write it off as a loss at this point if i were you

Hey, maybe chill on the personal attacks? And he isn't, anyway. That's exactly why FedEx leaves the slip and not the box - it shifts liability for lost property off their shoulders. The OP gambled and lost, which sincerely sucks, but it was still his decision.
Hope you find your goods and the a-hole that snagged them.
Keep an eye out in the parking lot for a car with some cool new turn signals.
On a serious note though, I was always bothered by UPS leaving fairly valuable goods sitting in front of the door. The do have loss coverage but it is a huge hassle to go through the whole process.
No offense man, but you signed the shipper release slip.
Fedex will not be held liable for it since you authorized them to leave it without you being there.

+1, this is a tough situation. Don't
ever sign that thing again. Its a gamble, even on residential houses, to leave packages just sitting out. Gotta have that patience to go pick it up the next day or so. Or specify Saturday delivery when available (pay a little more for it) so you are sure to be home for the package.
Bummer man. The dumpster diving idea doesn't sound half bad, its sure to end up there soon or later (but maybe hidden in somebody's kitchen garbage bag). See also Craigslist. Posting signs about it is bound to get you not a lot of result (but maybe?), and you might end up on www.passiveaggressivenotes.com (//http://)
+1 on checking craigslist
i had that happen once and my Chase card refunding my amount after a brief 5 minute Q&A, i told them the UPS guy delievered it and it was signed for, but i never signed for it, or got it, so he must have delivered it to the wrong house (which he did). They refunding my account that veryday, so i would try that route first.

which is fraud.
and if it gets investigated, fedex will have your signature.

That is awful advice
+1. opening yourself up to having your backdoor opened up in jail for a spell.
Doesn't FedEx insure? It would be incumbent on Motowheels to purchase the insurance, but I know UPS automatically insures up to $50.
However when you are signing for the package to be left, you may be waiving the insurance, depending on how the form is written. Worth a shot, but they'll deny the claim up front likely. Knowing that going into it may give you the ability to sidestep that claim, and plead - being as nice as possible, that they are a large company, and you really want them to help the little guy out, this time.

As Memphis said, i think it all goes back to the release. UPS just drops packages without signature unless the shipper requestes otherwise. Since they can't verify you've recieved it, they are still liable, but if you sign that it's okay for fed Ex to just leave it then it's your issue. I've actually had a UPS package get dropped off but swiped before I got home. They replaced it and now I just get stuff shipped to my office instead.

Insurance covers if the item in the package is damaged or loss during shipment. It doesn't insure if it is taken off your porch.
Also, UPS and Fedex keep pretty detailed logs of theft of packages dropped on porches. Therefore, depending on your area they may or may not leave your package. However, if you do shipper release, they will automatically leave it.

if that's the case, it might work out if one were to call and in the spirit of trying to help, report the theft for their records. They may offer to help out.

Probably wouldn't apply since he waived his right for signature delivery.
I am guessing they won't be of much help, if they are, I would be shocked. Fedex is very difficult to work with.
You're all right about it being bad advice, sorry about what i said, i sometims dont realize its a public forum. you waive your right when you allowed him to deliver at the door...however ive had fedex drivers check that damn box FOR ME and SIGN IT FOR ME, and just leave it.... a signature just means, a human received it, not neccisarly you.
But let me go a bit deeper into detail about the situation i had....
Delivery was made, and was signed for, UPS said that it was delivered to the approriate address and person. I called up and said otherwise, their records refuted me and i had to submit paper work to their claims deparment, which took forever, but the shipper got refunded and i got a new product.
I spoke with an ex UPS driver before, and he says that, there is no way of saying a package is delivered to the actual address, the only proof is the driver visually compared the address on your door/mailbox to the package and clicks delviered on his computer. there is no special barcode on your mail box that he scans.
So perhaps, the driver delivered it to the wrong address, even records indicated it was right address, this would be a human error. It would make sense because you never even got a sticker.
Back to my experience, UPS sent a driver to my house so they can confirm who it was delivered to, he never came, even though when i the called, they said the driver was there, but i wasnt home ( i was waiting). They kept denying it was the wrong address i just called up the shipper, they filed a claim, weeks later no word, i called my CC< they refunded my money and i forgot about it, but the shipper eventually told me, they got the funds and will send me a new product.
a few months after that, the guy who received my package ( about 3 miles from me) showed up at my door and said he got this a few omonths ago.
So that should atleast help you...maybe the driver knew you waived your right to it and took it on purpose (god knows in my area that is pretty plausible), youre CC may or may not cover that. I know my Amex will because i specifically asked since anyting fedex usually gets spit at my door with the boxes all checked for me so it always gets put on that card (USPS is the only way to go in my area).
now it would be real nic everyone could unquote me...
He Man is right about some drivers being half ass or criminal, whatever you want to call it.
I've seen ups drivers sign for the package themselves using the recipients last name.
My UPS driver always leaves my packages at my door.
But then again, I live in the back of a condo complex and I have a courtyard with a gate.
and the crime in Dublin is zero.
i had a fedex driver leave a letter envelope with $$$ worth of negotiable stuff in it on my front doorstep once.
i lived right at a very busy intersection....pure luck it didnt get swiped.
