Title: ooops!
Post by: wingnut on May 16, 2009, 02:11:30 PM
So I had the headlight off my 2 week old 1100 to modify the turn signals and since the guage cluster attaches to the headlight assembly it was laying on the triple clamp/handlebar mounts.  Well, when it began to rain and I went to push the bike under cover I heard a crack as I turned the bars...that crack was the LCD display getting crushed between the bar mount and tank.

Now, since I didn't care much for it in the first place and I'm sure it's a high $$ part has anyone tried to swapping out with old school speedo?  Is that even possible?

I'm almost certain that you're screwed, dude.
My understanding is that the new digital display uses a totally different ECU than the older monsters have, and that your ECU wouldn't communicate with the older dash at all. Add in the fact that the new gen monsters haven't been out long enough for the truly serious mods to come out, and I think you're on the hook for a new OEM dash.
Sorry that happened to you.

Yeah, I've came to the same conclusion when I tried the start it with the display unplugged and got nothing.  I guess I'll put it back together and ride around blind for now.

this thread is still here! I had a claim settled because my story here matched what I told the agent. They do look at these boards.
