Post by: DarkMonster620 on May 18, 2009, 10:55:19 AM
Can anyone shed some light on which design is better and why?

The top swingarm is a light weight non production swingarm, ducati claims a 20% weight reduction over the standard aluminum swingarm.
The bottom one looks like a factory aluminum monster swingarm but in a full kit with an upgraded ohlins shock.
I'm sure nither part is cheap, are you just looking to switch from a steel to aluminum swingarm?

are you just looking to switch from a steel to aluminum swingarm? >>> Yes, so that I can purchase a 5.5" rear; read somewhere either here or in one of the other forums that the steel DSS wont accpet the 5.5" rear and also to avoid having to repaint the bottom part to the SS every other week

But which IS better?

The top one...just look at it...it's sweet!  [bow_down]

You can run a 5.5" wheel in the steel swingarm. I did.

I also have a spare Al swingarm if you really want to go that way. Have a spare steel swingarm too...

In the world of swingarms, stiffness is everything. The both of those are good designs, but the bridge on the upper one should make it stiffer.

tery hduc,norm,

thanks for information, once i'mout of this deep financial hole called 'jobless' and finish repairing my bike, i'll let you know to see if you still have the extra ADSS.
So is a mith that in order to install 5.5" you need the Alu swingarm.

I would say it's a myth, I ran a 5.5" rear in my steel swingarm for 2 years.

As far as my swingarm is concerned, I just realized mine wouldn't work for you as they are for the hoop style older suspensions.

Thanks brother... No harm done, as I said, I first need to get a job at the same time I'm repairing my ride. Once I'm stable and out of debt, I'll go wild with the bike. But first, the brakes, then front suspension, if money allows, both suspensions at the same time[might send forks to Traxxion or HyperPro] and get a second set of forks[showa adj] and do the same...As far as engine goes, hopefully the miracle happens and I find a DP ECU for my bike or get a PC3 or DT card...
