Title: project mock up (finished) Post by: xcaptainxbloodx on May 18, 2009, 03:26:02 PM Im mounting my clip ons tomorrow and maybe getting some paint/decals the day after so I photochopped my mock up.
(http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i82/realityfooeldme/2005-Ducati-Monster-S2RDark2.jpg) this was the only stock s2R 800 dark picture I could find so picture this with a full arrow exhaust and 999 front calipers. Ill update this thread as things get done. Title: Re: project mock up Post by: NAKID on May 18, 2009, 03:40:34 PM Why does it have a website on the exhaust heat shield?
Title: Re: project mock up Post by: erkishhorde on May 18, 2009, 03:44:10 PM I know there was a classic Ducati symbol that used the wings like that but for some reason every time I see it I think Honda. Funny how the oil sight looks yellow. What's the red thing under the tank? Throttle?
Title: Re: project mock up Post by: xcaptainxbloodx on May 18, 2009, 06:24:58 PM The banner belongs to the site I stood the stock photo from and the red under the tank is the throttle cam
Title: Re: project mock up Post by: MsTek on May 18, 2009, 07:05:26 PM That's a great idea. I just tied to do the same thing but cannot find a stock photo that is the same color as my bike... but I did find one that is my bike (same model, color) but with the pipes I want on it. At least I can better picture in my mind's eye now what she's going to look like once I done. I am debating on tangerine rim tape right now. I'm thinking I should just keep it as simple as I can and just black, black, black.
Good job on the mock up! [thumbsup] Title: Re: project mock up Post by: Spidey on May 18, 2009, 07:30:50 PM That's a great idea. Title: Re: project mock up Post by: MsTek on May 18, 2009, 07:41:35 PM ^^ that is it. Thank you! I have only be able to find the red or black one.
Title: Re: project mock up Post by: Cider on May 19, 2009, 11:45:20 AM Looks cool. In-my-not-so-humble-opinion, I think the logo ought to be level with the ground, though. Looking forward to pictures of the real thing.
Title: Re: project mock up Post by: xcaptainxbloodx on May 19, 2009, 02:45:37 PM I wanted to tilt it in order to follow the line of the tank. when I get the decals made ill see what it looks like in person.
Title: Re: project mock up Post by: ducrider45 on May 20, 2009, 10:48:03 AM Paint the headlight ring red as well. [thumbsup]
Title: Re: project mock up Post by: xcaptainxbloodx on May 20, 2009, 01:16:03 PM theres a good chance of that. Ill probably paint the headlight bracket too. also the cowl is gonna get a sort of a tapered V down the middle.
Title: Re: project mock up Post by: Pasta Bobber on May 20, 2009, 03:05:45 PM +1 on leveling the tank logo, it fights with the line of the frame a little. Looks awesome otherwise! I love the use of the old ducati badging. I just picked up a set of late 60's aluminum wings with the ducati script for mine. They might go back on ebay because now they remind me of honda wings. Thanks a lot erkishhorde!! [laugh]
Title: Re: project mock up Post by: xcaptainxbloodx on May 21, 2009, 01:54:45 AM heres what it looks like with the logo straight. I dont like it because it doesnt follow any lines of the bike. angled the way I had it originally follows the line of the top of the tank and together with the frame they both come to a point at the headlight.

Yep, I see your rationale. I think it's cool you considered the alternative and your design is reasoned out rather than an accident. How about a red spring? The yellow never bothered me, but on your design red might be a nice touch. Black would look good too, I think. Title: Re: project mock up Post by: Scottish on May 21, 2009, 11:02:05 AM Mock it up with the gauges and headlight lowered as well. I think that'd be the bee's knees. [thumbsup]
Title: Re: project mock up Post by: xcaptainxbloodx on May 21, 2009, 01:13:12 PM the gauges are lowered but lowering the headlight was too big of a headache, but both will be lowered when the clipons get mounted.
I would really like to change the color on the rear spring but I dont really feel like ripping the bike apart and being unable to ride for it. then again, knowing me, its gonna bug me until I change it so its gonna have to happen sooner or later [laugh]. I eventually (as in, forever eventually) would like to change to a better rear spring so maybe when that happens I can do it. PS I thought I would add this. (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i82/realityfooeldme/2005-Ducati-Monster-S2RDark2lines.jpg) Its overly simplified but anytime im modifying one of my bikes I do one as a guide. you can see the gauges, tank and tail make a straight line, the seat is what I will line up my headlight with and the lines from the tank to the frame meet at the top triple. Looking forward to pictures of the real thing. +1 I think you can play around with it in photochop. It will be pretty easy to tell when it's "right" as it will just look, well, right. ;D Then again, maybe Cider and I's judgement is just clouded by seeing so many original ducs with that logo. (http://www.supershowevents.com/collection/moj4pics/moj4-duc-monza-1.gif) IMO, it makes the difference between looking OEM or looking like a tank with a sticker on it. Title: Re: project mock up Post by: xcaptainxbloodx on May 22, 2009, 10:26:04 AM if you read the other posts you will see that not only have I played with it in photshop, and posted it the "oem way" but that there are very specific reasons for it being tilted.

[thumbsup] Title: Re: project mock up Post by: xcaptainxbloodx on May 23, 2009, 09:12:41 PM I might not even go with those decals. duccutters has all the old logos so im gonna play around with them. and then comes the actual mock up once the paint is on. Alot of things change when you can circle around and see it from different angles.
PS might wanna check your stock badges. theyre at an angle... Title: Re: project mock up Post by: adpeacock on May 24, 2009, 06:23:52 AM If you didnt want to rip your bike apart to change the color of the spring go see a dirt bike store and get a dirt protector its a nylon cover that attaches by velcro around the spring. It helps a lot especially when I took off my rear hugger after it got messed up.
Title: Re: project mock up Post by: ProTeal55 on May 25, 2009, 07:19:10 AM Changing the color of the spring is what lead me to rip my entire bike apart [thumbsup]
(http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q49/ProTeal55/MONSTER/IMG_1668.jpg) I couldnt take that yellow spring on a blacked out bike so off it went, and while I was at it everything else that wasnt black got coated..Blacked out boomtubes are going on later today !
