Title: 696 Dark plastics
Post by: 1313 on May 19, 2009, 03:21:35 PM
I've only seen one in person but for the life of me can't remember.. Is it flat black or does it have a semi-gloss look to it?

I'm really contemplating converting my Pearl White into a Dark. I wonder if it would be cheaper to paint it? Two tank panels and the front fender. I don't use the rear cowl. But then again I'd lose the Ducati Monster decals.

Somebody is going to want to trade you.

Don't pull the trigger until you ask the board at least.

At first I really wanted to swap my dark to white plastics.  But black is sorta growing on me.  :)

It's this black, whatever you wanna call it...

I bought my pearl white before the darks were available. I want to turn my 696 into a pseudo cafe racer. At least the look. Black is a better color for that IMO.

FYI, per the parts manual, it's PPG code is 291.501, "Nero Opaco".  It's not a true flat.

I'm really thinking about flat/matte black now. My only concern is keeping it clean since it doesn't have a clearcoat. My helmet is a PITA to clean because of the texture.

Interesting.. Shows you how much I know about paint. I didn't know there was such thing as a flat clear.

Actually, that's what I love abt the dark.  Cleaning is done w/ a moist towel.  Or maybe if it's really dirty, with some mild detergent (I have powersport cleaner spray).  That's it.  It's so easy.  No wax, no swirl marks to worry abt.  I love the ease of cleaning on the dark.  Well, I only have it for a little over a month, so maybe there's something else I haven't run into yet.  :P

gotta agree.  I clean my bodywork with windex & a paper towel.  I can only tell it's dirty from close up.  Mostly, you notice that the finish is not quite as satiny(sp?) as usual.
