Title: What's going on here then?!? Progress pics page 2
Post by: CairnsDuc on May 19, 2009, 07:09:11 PM
Just cause I'm out of the Job, doesn't mean I can't keep modding......
More Details soon  ;D
(http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg286/SpankyMK/SwingArm.jpg?t=1242788308)

Well I finally got my finger out and finished paying for my Brembo Goldline upgrade Kit and here it is in all it's Glory
And I'm keeping the Coffin Master, I prefer the look of them, I know that is not fashionable, but I don't care it's my bike! and anyone who doesn't like it can get Bent! (Although I mean that with love and Respect!  ;D )

The Goldline upgrade for the S2R 800 is now a very rare species, when I was talking to the Parts Manager at Ducati Australia, it is listed in Italy as NFR (Not for reorder)/NLA (No longer available) it hasn't been a big seller in Australia (According to Ducati Australia only about 3 or 4 kits have ever been sold, including this one) and Ducati Italy has only sold about 70 or 80 kits worldwide) So Ducati is no longer going to be offering them as a kit, which is a shame, I picked that all up ready to go for just under $1k, so once they are gone in Italy, it is finished.

And here Desmo is giving his Seal of Approval, so Swing arm on this Weekend, and then Brake kit on during the week.

It's paint, and the masking tape has not come out of the bearing housing as I took the Photo.
I have a customer of the Store I work for is a Industrial coater/Painter, he Sand Blasted it and painted it for me for free, The Paint cost me a bottle of Jim Beam Black (Jotun Industrial Paint).
I'm going to get the Painter a bottle of something as well, he did a great job and in very quick time ;D

It's still curing, so I'm not rushing to put it on, I'm going to start doing a very slow rebuild on the weekend.
Last thing I want to do is scratch up all his hard work.

Now, all I have to do is finish paying for the Goldline Brake upgrade kit, and my Modding will nearly be complete. [evil]

Oz is laid back - that's a good thing, but when I visit it's usually because I browse through "unread" and there you are. Plus CairnsDuc helped me with the brake kit project (or not), so I enjoy hearing what he's up to.

Good looks? I don't think so [roll]

is there a difference between the 4 pot goldline and the 4 pot pot black caliper of the s2r1000? (I know that the 800/620 had the 2 pot black).

yes the colour  [cheeky]

When I looked at a S2R 1000 that was in during the week for service, it looks the same, brake disc off set, Caliper, line's, masters, Fork bases/mount.
Just the colour of the Caliper appears to be different.
There might be a bigger difference under the skin I can't see, but it makes sense to me to make an upgrade part for the 800 that just use's already commonly available S2R 1000 parts.

Progress Photo's
The swingarm is in and swinging!
While I had it off, I did a few other Jobs
* Repainted the OEM RearSets to Black
* Cleaned and Greased the Pivot Bearings and Hub Bearings (The one's I could get to anyway)
* Installed new rear disc pads
* Put in new rear brake fluid and bled (I was amazed how much air was in there)
* Installed Titanium Hub pinch bolts (The OEM's were rooted) and replaced a lot of the OEM bolts with Stainless steel bolts
* Replaced the OEM "Tights spots everywhere!" Chain with a new EK Red Chain, You don't need a crimper for the rivets on this chain, it has some small nuts (Oooh er Matron!) you do up as tight as you can, it self crimps and then you break the long bolts off, install 2 small Orings and your off, CaCycleworks sell them, I figure if Chris stocks them they must be good, he refuses to sell crap or unsafe products.
And now for the progress Pics
* PS: New I forgot something: Installed a HyperMotard Oil line I got off a crashed bike (EBay for only $50 Delivered to Australia!!)

Hey Spider ! You got shares in that Ceramic coating company??  ;D

BTW, whats the story with getting them done! I spent a couple of hours with the emery and polishing equipment (Very shiny, looked schmick [thumbsup]), and it turned shitty and brown again within a week.  [roll]

you can polish your life away brother.

getting them coated is a PITA....means your off the bike for a week!

(would have been good in a 'wet week' of melbourne weather....but we don't have those anymore, eh!)

I like em cause....they look good....same reason I like Rizoma fluid reservoirs....

Looking neat there CD.
How's about taking a bit of length out of those pipes.
Not going crazy as some of our friends do in the US of A but losing an inch or two would tie that back end together.

My 2c's for your on going work.

we're waiting for a step-by-step guide after you do yours!

all you 'stub' ended monster riders have the same problem once you cut the end off!

That's the silly parts with the Termi Can's though, I like em out there, I've seen a few chopped and shortened, but I prefer them out that far, the joys of modding, To each his own!  [thumbsup]

I considered getting the pipes coated, but with the bike off the road for 2 or more weeks, the cost to get it done and to be honest, I like the look of the pipes in there plain form, and even if I wanted to do it, it won't be happening anytime soon, with the bike going back to commuting work with the loss of my current job, the chances of it happening are pretty much nil.  :)

Kind of figured the chain might be a bit controversial, but with only a tiny price difference over a plain jane uncoloured one........
C'mon, I had to do the pure Wank red one!  [cheeky]

Looks good CD!
How much was the Red chain and what was the price of the plain one and where did you get them from?

you know, I'm with Chris on that one - for me, the red chain detracts for the other (outstanding) colour matching you've done - esp the swing arm - can't remember where I saw that first (definitely on the DML, from the US) but I love the way it flows with the trellis frame.

I'm a sucker for a DSS bike personally, but when I see a tasty matched SSS, it might just turn me!

It's kinda like the ohlins gold thing - for me if you have gold you need to have a consistent theme, and different tones, hues and the like detract. Sometimes its hard to gauge from a pic, but to me it looks like the chain is not quite close enough of a match, and like I said, imho it detracts from the overall package.

Not really controversial, just different strokes for different foks! nice and tidy bike none the less, it's a credit to you.

Thanks GoldFish  :) I knew the chain would be one of those love it or hate it things, I was a touch disappointed when it came out of the box and was a lighter colour than I thought.
I always wanted a red chain, now I've got it, I might change the colour to a black one next time, or Purple, or Green, or blue, or yellow....  [laugh]

It's an EK Chain from CA Cycleworks, the Black chain is $119 US and the Coloured chains are $129 US. I was going to buy the Genuine Ducati Red Chain through work but at nearly $300 at cost.... :o

The Photo on the CA site made it look a bit Darker than it really is, I figured the Gold was not going to suit, because I have nothing gold on the bike apart from the yellow spring on the Ohlins shock, I like the yellow spring on the ohlins shock, adds a point of difference to the bike and breaks things up from the red and black, it also adds a highlight point to the back of the bike, to signal that this is different, this is not factory.

Here's a link for the Chains on Ca's site

I originally hated the gold DiD chain....thought it looked way to 'pimpy'....but it's so good for chain maintenance...any dirt shows up....the red may just well be the same!

hey Goldie....the tri-colour must have done your head in...the ohlins, paint and wheels were all different gold tones....add a gold chain...and....your head would explode!  [laugh]

My bike is prodominantly red & black, but I have gold highlights. brakes/masters cylinders, calipers, front forks, clutch slave cyl, fuel cap and chain are all gold. My chain is indeed DID gold and its been a fantastic chain. Its only just developed a slight tight spot now, but its pretty minimal. - Chris
