Title: Strange ticking noise
Post by: obsidian gt on May 21, 2009, 08:14:07 AM
Ok, so here's a question that's sure to cause a lot of head scratching.  I have a 09 696 with 2800 miles on it.  I recently did an oil change (Mobil 1 MX4T 10-40) at 2616 miles, and ever since then, whenever I get off the expressway onto a normal road, at the first light I come to I'll start getting this stranged ticking noise coming from the engine.  It coincides with the engine RPM, although it doesn't do it every revolution.  It may tick 3-5 times in a row, stop for a few revolutions, do it again for a couple revolutions, etc.  Now it could be purely coincidental that it started doing it right after the oil change, I'm not totally sure.  It SEEMS to be louder on the right side.  So to simplify, after 20-30 min on the highway at 4-5000RPM, get of the highway and come to a stop at a light, that is when it is doing it.  It'll go away when I take off again, but takes a while on normal roads before it stops completely.  The bike is under warranty so if something is wrong it shouldn't be an issue, but I'm obviously very concerned by this.  So, any thoughts?  Oh, no coil issue and no overheating issues, bike maintains 2-3 bars.

I get the same thing on my s2r800 but it's on the left side. I think I'll bring it in and have them take a look at it since it's still under warranty.
