Well, I went for a little quick ride. As I return and exit my about 2 mile away from my apartment, I am at a stop light and viola the clutch lever won't engage. I could not even try to ride it on any gear as it just jumps and I can not engage it at all.
I just pushed the bike 2 mile to my apartment. What a workout. I am exhausted and out of shape to be doing this. I am so glad this bike is light enough.
I am glad it happened near my apartment rather than the highway or on one of country roads out of town. Time to get AMA membership I suppose and take advantage of the towing service.
How far have you guys had the misfortune of pushing your bike ?
(Funny thing, I rode bicycle to work for the first time (so hard to ride about 5 mile) today and looks like tomorrow is bicycle day and I have no choice about it. Car is at friends place. What a day.)
What Monster do you have?
Or do you have the clutch problem sorted out?
Haven't had to do any pushing with my Duc other than to start it a couple times.
The only time I had to was for the exact same reason. About 5 blocks on a hot day. Riding is much better than pushing. :P
With some help from the folks here I quickly diagnosed the problem. Some gunk had worked it's way into the slave cyl when I was using a pressure washer. Remove, wipe, lithium grease, replace. Never had the problem again. [thumbsup]
edit: at regular intervals during my push/walk I would rev the engine for motivation.
I had to push the bike a little over 1.5 mi after a pebble got kicked up by the front tire and punctured the oil filter. Very messy, I am lucky I didn't wreck it.
oh yeah, pushing the bike sucks.
Last year I ran out of gas on the highway and found out my reserve light doesnt work. Anyway I started to push the 5 miles to the next town and a truck with a trailer full of dirtbikes pulled up behind me after about 1/2 mile into it. The first thing the guy says is "you must just be out of gas cuz that aint no Harley". He had about 1 gallon left in one of his gas cans and I gave him the last $10 in my wallet. The push wasnt bad due to the flatness of the highway, the bad part was wondering if some idiot was going to swerve onto the shoulder at 80mph. Now my Gieco insurance has a tow feature, and I know not to go past 170 on a tank.

620 Monster 2004. She just turned 35K miles so I guess I should start expecting some stuff like this.
Problem not yet sorted out. It was after midnight and I was too exhaused. I will check it out after work today. Let me go rev up the bicycle and head to work now ;D

I need to stop power washing (at low setting I suppose too)
I went for a quick ride when I lost my clutch. I discovered that my clutch resivior was leaking and I had no clutch fluid left.
I *almost* was there with the no clutch fluid. I also lost a shifter bolt once. Didn't have to push, but had to ride home on only 2nd gear ~

Did you manage to get a ticket pushing it home? ;)
No, but seriously - that sucks.

Oh snap ;D
I had to push a '78 CB750 the better part of a mile once for want of a 1/2 gallon of gas. Mother of @#$ that was a heavy ass bike. :-\

I've got over 60k miles on my 2001 900 and haven't had to push it anywhere yet. (touch wood)
even after crashing it a few years ago and totally destroying the both exhausts cans, footpeg hangers, gas tank (massively dented, but not punctured) and many other bits and pieces, I was still able to ride it home stuck in second gear. Thankfully it was only about a 3 mile ride.
I also ran out of gas once as well, but hitchhiked to the gas station and back.
At least you could push your bike. I had the clutch slave go out...leaking fluid and no clutch. Call to get tow. In meantime I lose the darn key. So I had to push/drag the bike to the truck - thankful the driver assisted me. Really cold (for Texas) and I was all sweaty by the time we got it on the truck. Don't lose your key. ;D
Ah on my way home after picking up the old ape baby that makes me act like a gorilla got about 1.4 miles out from the shop cut. Nothing nada I am as out after acting like a idiot in traffic I am now the awhole. So I ended pushing it back 1.4 miles and loping off a little of my tail light trying to push start the thing. I ended getting the shop in full gear sweating like a pig on a hot day. It was rather funny but not cool.

On my ride home from work, light goes on, i think i got the mileage indicator to tell me how far i got... [bang] It doesn't work if you're in Traffic most of the time...when it got up to 8.5 miles,it died. fortunately it was only a block, a Gas station. I did the the sit on the bike, tippy-toe dance to the gas [moto], not the get off and push.
lesson 87, the gas mileage indicator only works if you're on the freeway, or in constant motion...
I've run it dry three times now. In all I've pushed the bike probably 2.5 miles. Each time there was something different I goofed up and haven't repeated any mistakes. It could be MUCH worse than pushing a (relatively) light 750.
So a good friend and I looked at it this afternoon. Looks like the clutch slave is not working.
Got to order that. I am thinking to order the Evoluzione Clutch Slave.
Anyone try that? Any reliable place to order it from? Supposed to be better than stock ?
I guess no riding this long weekend >:(

Now that would be nuts. I would just dump the bike on the spot and walk away and not look back :'(
Evo part arrived today. A friend worked on putting the Evo clutch slave, but so far no luck getting her to work. The bearing that came would not fit and we bought a spacer/washer from Lowe's and drilled it and tried it. So far she is not clutching. Bled her a bunch of times. Clutch engages but then not properly when test with gear on and step on rear brake. Did this outside in the rain with wood plank to cover the brake fluid when pouring in the dark with flash light. We'll see what tommorrow brings. Keeping fingers crossed.
Any of you installed Evo clutch slave? Any pointers is appreciated or info on this topic. Used the instruction here http://evoluzione.net/evo-cycle-ducati.htm (http://evoluzione.net/evo-cycle-ducati.htm)
Don't forget to bleed the master. It is the high point in the system.
Which slave did you get, the 28.5 or the 30.5? If you have a coffin master you want the 28.5 or you may not move the push rod enough. Chances are good you still have air in there though. Try removing the slave and slowly pushing the piston back. This will force trapped air out of the master.

Thanks Howie. 28.5. Still pumping the air out. Got it to engage a bit but it still does not disengage. Bled the master so many times as well.
it just seems like you mentioned that "... not move the push rod enough. ..." That is exactly what is happening. We bled it so many times and confirm no air. It just seems the master has not enough pressure to push the rod. At this point, we will call Monday to see what is happening and ask EVO about it. Wondering if it is wrong part for this bike or what.

The very reason I won't use a pressure washer on any bikes that I own, even the dirtbike. Have you ever pulled a swingarm off to service the bearings only to find what the soap scum and the water did to them from a couple of years before? Pretty bleak.
I did not read the whole thread so if someone else said the same thing...forgive me.
Anyway I used to subscribe to "EasyRiders" mag when it was really put out by Outlaw Bikers...I remember an article where they called pushing your bike any distance..."Motor Hikin'".
I thought it was a sorta humorous term.
I have done a very limited amount of it. I found the motor hikin' scene in Wild Hogs somewhat unbelievable...but then agian it was a movie and one must suspend disbelief when watching one...

Motor Hikin' - I'll have to remember that the next time. Yes, knowing a Ducati, it's bound to happen unfortunately
