Title: Then & now Post by: kingbaby on May 22, 2009, 06:02:12 PM Or, before & after.
Thought it would be a fun thing to do now that we have a lot of new folks on the forum, and a number of us have been riding longer than we care to admit, to show pics of our mods, rebuilds (bikes & ourselves) over the years. Never being one to comply, but I figure as long as there is a moto in the pic (or not) it's fair game. Fun stuff. Ok, here's what I got:
My first bike of my own. It's a Kawasaki KLR 250. Did a lot of dirt riding back then. (http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd164/dustykitska/Picture29.jpg) Then I got a BMW CS 650 and really got the travel bug. Here I was riding into a storm. (http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd164/dustykitska/IMG_3383.jpg) Next came my Suzuki VStrom. This was at the Grand Tetons on my way to Alaska. (http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd164/dustykitska/rm-1.jpg) At last, came my Ducati Monster and lots more miles later: (http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd164/dustykitska/P7010043.jpg) (http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd164/dustykitska/P6150001-2.jpg) Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!! Face it, Dusty, you're just a trophy girl! Worse things could happen. ;D Well, it is going to be a while before I can dredge up some pictures out of the archives of my first bikes. They were taken with a Brownie camera, I think. I will have to figure out a way to get them into digital. It was a blast looking at all you guys' shots though. C'mon, post up the rest of you. I know HP has some interesting BMW photos from high school. And I seem to remember one that Zaster posted a while back of either him or a distant ancestor on a motorbike. Underblog&Zaster, those have to be two of the coolest shots ever, can't wait to see more. I can already see the Honda CB's coming outa' the woodwork. Hey Cloner, also on the Photobucket home page there is a size setting. For example, I used the large 640x480 on my first two. the medium works well if detail isn't so important. Title: Re: Then & now Post by: bonfy on May 23, 2009, 09:05:26 AM Yup, as a matter of fact, I did have a CB750 in the line-up. It is sitting on the back patio right now awaiting Scottish's creative attention.

Before long I convinced my dad to let me have a KTM 125 and as i am today, I had more than one bike. I really liked my yamaha rd50 which i transformed into a yz50 and before long I was flying, or at least having hallucinations. there are also a couple of shots of me riding wheelies on a Honda Monkey! Anyway thats all I could dig out of moms photo albums while I am visiting LA. Back next week! I actually rode for the first time around 1970 also on my brother's small dirt bike. As to the Heinkel, well, different strokes for different folks, I guess. :) Title: Re: Then & now Post by: Z-Duc-Ski on July 31, 2009, 09:13:47 AM In the famous words of Austin Powers, "please allow myself to introduce myself." My name is Steve and I've been living out here in Albuquerque going on 17 years now. I am originally from Windsor, Connecticut, a small town just north of Hartford. My first bike was an '89 Suzuki Gsxr-750; same as the '88 'slingshot' save for a slightly different paint scheme. In the picture included here, it is all stock except for the tinted windscreen. Over time though, the bike became modified. (The heart of my '89 consisted of a bank of Mikuni flatslides - I had to be able to keep pace with my buddie's 'slightly' modified turbo Gpz!) I've owned a '93 Gsxr-750, a '94 Gsxr-750, a '97 Gsxr-750, and a '99 Yamaha R1. I wrecked my knee pretty badly pretending I was Tony Hawk whilst at the Los Altos skate Park and decided to sell the R1 since I couldn't bend my leg to ride it. My knee eventually healed, but needless to say, I got out of motorcycling for one reason or another. The thought of getting another bike was always in the back of my mind though and it wasn't until this year that I decided to get back into the sport, the passion, and the way of life I once enjoyed. I picked up a '09 Ducati 1198s over at PJ's last month and am pretty much thrilled with it. All the folks down there at PJ's are awesome people and I enjoyed doing business with them.
I've known Dusty for quite awhile, talked with KB a couple of times and briefly talked with Ducmouse once. (I might have spoken with a couple others, but do not know their NMMR names.) Yes, I admit, since getting my new bike, I've been lurking about your board from time-to-time and decided it's high-time I say 'hello' to you all. This is one of my favorite threads you have going, I like the theme. Staying with the theme of 'Then and Now', Scott Russell absolutely dominated the sport back in the day, riding for team Muzzy Kawasaki, and was my Superbike 'hero'. (I've been reading that some of you follow the races nowadays and also have your favorites.) I hope to meet some of you out and about, perhaps next week up in Ouray. Until then, here are a couple of photos spanning 20 years time; my '89 Suzuki and my '09 Ducati. it started with a big wheel. the kids in the neighborhood would build ramps and i'd jump that thing. i don't have any pictures of that unfortunately, but i do have this: (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v301/melissaonline/me%20bikes%20n%20stuff/dukesofhazzardracingset.jpg) when i was in high school someone tried to teach me how to ride a dirt bike. on a gravel road. it was hurty badness. so i was actually afraid of bikes until i layed my peepers on my first bike. that's when i realized i need to learn to ride: (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v301/melissaonline/me%20bikes%20n%20stuff/cycle.jpg) my first ride through jemez: (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v301/melissaonline/me%20bikes%20n%20stuff/IMG_1677.jpg) and now i never ride the bmw because i've got my monster. so many things to do to ...
