Title: I lost my cool yesterday
Post by: Betty Rage on May 25, 2009, 12:27:44 PM
I was out enjoying the sunshine on my Ninja two-shitty, doing about 35 in a 30 zone, one lane street.

Some idiot decided to pass me on the right (one lane street, remember) barely missing me in the process. And not just a slow, careful pass. A screaming, zooming, angry pass. Scared the shit outta me.

so at the next stop light I pulled up next to him (his window was down) and this is the subsequent conversation:

me: What the make the beast with two backs was that?!
him: What?
me: You could have make the beast with two backsing KILLED me!
him: You were going to slow.
me: It's 30 make the beast with two backsING miles an hour back there douchebag!

At that point he rolled his window up and turned his music up as well. I rolled ahead of him and had half a  mind to kick his door with my boot. Luckily my other half of a mind talked me out of it.

I then proceeded to enjoy the rest of my ride and tried to forget about him.

Way to regain your composure. Let someone who doesn't have a little one kick in his door.  [evil]
I'm available.

A well placed downward thump on his mirror works just as well.

Good on you for the composure part. [thumbsup]

That's the worst. Idiot pass on purpose too.

I've had conversations with SUV side mirrors before in self defense. That is, a couple of knocks on the window and honking the horn didn't awaken the dumbarse driving, so then the fisted CF glove to mirror as SUV moved over to squash me in heavy traffic seemed to do the trick.
Smacking someone after the fact might get you into more trouble though. Good thing you got your cool back.  [thumbsup]

Watch behind now and then.

That's the worst. Idiot pass on purpose too.

Some douche on an H-D passed me one night on the left side of my lane as I was going to make a left turn.

This was on a two-way, single lane street.  A car was oncoming too. I was getting ready to turn when that car passed and the bike came speeding between us.   >:(

Passing you did a lot of good if he still ended up stuck at the same light. "You were going too slow [for me to be here the same time as you]" [roll]

Neenja is little bitty - she'd prolly have trouble knocking off a mirror.  Good for you keeping your cool, C.  You got a lil one to think about.

I had a similar experience the very first time I took my bike out. I had a 30 day tag on it and was riding to the license bureau so they could check the title to the frame. I was riding through a 25mph speed trap (doing about 35) and someone blasted by me inches from my bar end mirror. I saw them behind me, but I did not yet know about the downward thrust on a sideview mirror. It took about 10 minutes to not be seeing red anymore.  [bang]

and of course, the squad car that is usually in the park running radar wasn't there this one time.

The wife and I were in Germany 2 weeks ago. München, Hohenschwangau, Dinkelsbuhl, and Frankfurt am Main. After driving on both "A" and "B" roads and inner city , most American drivers suck in comparison. Put down the cell phone, the Ho-Ho's, and the makeup and focus on driving Pleeeeaaase!

Sorry to threadjack, but did you stop at the Ducati dealer outside Dinklesbuhl?  The owner is a true enthusiast and does some cool things with Monsters.

Cagers can be so RUDE to us.  Besides the idiocy factor, I think a lot of it has to do with a lack of education about riding.  If we are all going to share the road, drivers of vehicles with four wheels really should be required to have some basic knowledge about motorcycles: lane-sharing is legal (in Cali, anyway), motorcycles don't turn on a dime but make an outside-inside-outside maneuver, etc.  I think that might help mediate some circumstances where drivers are rude to us because they *think* we're being rude to them.  I've spoken with several cager friends who were shocked that lane-sharing was legal and always got mad when motorcyclists did it.  Once they knew it was legal and they understood why (air-cooled engines don't do well in CA traffic jams), they changed their attitude.

Other than that, I simply expect people to do the stupidest possible thing and stay out of the way as best I can.

Good one on ya, Neenja!

Idk-I can see the other side too. I live in some of the most popular moto friendly twisties around.

Which teaches the lesson (to me anyway): Motorcyclists are assholes.

I'm often caging it. I often have bike revving their motors at me, hkeeping the high beams on, and all sorts of obnoxious shit until they can pass. I typicaly take the first turnout I can find, but they're a couple miles apart, and these idjits can't wait. Vindingo came to visit me in his Jeep. He had three motorcyclists pass him on the right. Bikers do a lot of really retarded shit when they think they're on a road that's mostly deserted. If I wasn't so good at swerving to avoid idiots leaned over the double yellow, I would've killed at least three so far. It's not even the height of summer yet.

No it's not all of us, but in all honesty, if I wasn't a biker, I can't tell you how pissed I would be at the people riding on these roads.

Last time I road my bicycle down there (35) I was ran off the road twice by cars and bikes speeding way over the double yellow.  :o

I am definitely guilty of having been 'impatient' trying to pass cagers.
I usually wait for a spot that's pretty comfortable then give a friendly wave.

There is a bit of a conflict in the essence of it being a "sport" for some and not for others. Another conflict of the sport having bikes doing 8mph, and others doing 70 in the same spot.
Then for some, their sport seems to be messing up those who think it's a 'sport.'

I've just decided it's got to be for fun and not for pushing the edge every second. Taking it down a notch has made it more fun for me.

I actually meant motorcycle when I wrote this but I am on my bicycle on the same roads pretty frequently as well.

Difference is that those asshole bikers are taking their own lives into their hands.  Chances are in a collision, you in your cage will be safe and sound.  Annoyed, but safe, whereas they will be road pizza.

Aggressive cagers are FAR worse than aggressive bikers as far as the collision is concerned.

Ya cagers suck when they drive that way. +11tyb
But we all got responsibilities.

EDIT:
2 days ago in Marin, a Drunk on a Hardley cruiser took out 2 pedestrians killing them both, a father and little girl crossing the street.
He blew passed a stopped car at a stop sign doing about 70 they say.

He lost his leg and put the bike in a ball, ...and got a manslaughter charge. His life is screwed.

If there are driveways, I chillax. I can get to 70 in 1st gear in a blink.

I agree with Mr. Inc here, I can definitely see both sides.  I cage about 40k a year for work and a lot of my jobs are 60+ miles so I slab it a lot, but I do get the occasional rocket who thinks he needs to make a tire shaped dent in my bumber before he passes or I get irritated and hit a turn-about.

On the other hand, who among us hasn't gotten pissed on a spirited ride in the middle of nowhere when suddenly a '95 F150 decides he wants to slow down for the sole reason of pissing the whole group off, then gets upset when we drop a gear and zip around him.  I do my absolute best to give cars a wide berth but when you have thet random wild hair up your ass, it makes it difficult to keep your tach in the mid-range :).

Hell, last week I had someone zip around me and cut me off IN MY CAGE.  I was in the work van and admittedly going under the speed limit (hey, it's not illegal) and a pos Civic passed me on the left only to slam on the brakes because we were coming up on a stop sign.  I almost had to pull over I was so mad.
