Title: Billy Bobs in their pick-um-up trucks
Post by: Duki09 on May 26, 2009, 11:04:38 AM
I'm riding on a back road in  which I never rode on before. Speed limit is 55, I'm doing around 65mph. Not extremely fast, but I'm already over the limit and possibly pushing for a ticket if there was a cop with a radar gun hiding somewhere.  I shouldn't of even been going as fast as I was.

Billy Bob with his big bad pick-up truck thinks I'm going too slow for him, even though I'm at least 10mph over the limit,  so he gets into the oncoming lane to pass me up while rocks and dirt is flying off his truck are hitting me and takes off doing what had to be 80-90mph.

Then some kid on his street legal dirt bike passes me up and rides through a red light while I patiently sat at the light waiting it to change like any civilized person.

Friggin hicks need to grow up.   Small town bubbas are more dangerous than city people, because there is a lack of of authority in those areas.

Everytime I see these guys, I imagine them squealing like a pig and pretending they are in a NASCAR race.

nice thing about a narrow bike is the ability to move over a little and wave on faster traffic past without forcing them far into the opposing lane.... like any civilized (non NASCAR watching) person.

It is actually pronounced NAYSC'R.  If your gonna poke fun at the hillbillies, at least get the terminology correct. ;D

Commoners!  Poor Muffy almost spilled her G&T in shock upon hearing your tale of roadside barbarism.  If you keep having these unpleasant interactions, you *really* should talk to your driver about the routes he takes to the marina.  <sigh>  Good help is so hard to find.

Wow...Really?  Classifying irresponsible drivers as rednecks or rednecks the only ones that enjoy Nascar...friggin hicks...what would you call a Duc rider going through a red light or going 80-90 mph...

Not a sermon...just a thought.

This same thing happened to a few of us last year in eastern AZ. We were doing a solid 10 over on a rural highway that had a speed limit somewhere around 65. A diesel pickup (ford F250 sized) came up behind us and apparently we were holding him up. He passed us safely but when he ended up in front of us, he thought he would show us just how fast his silly truck was. He was flooring in and puffing huge clouds of black smoke out for us to ride though. Then slowly but surely his truck would accelerate away. Man was I impressed.  ;)

(for those who are sensitive about there truck driving status and size of resident township, I definitely see more jackasses in cars here in the city than I do in small town trucks)

NASCAR is still about as entertaining as watching the billboards pass by while driving down the freeway.

I gots a big Jeep.  It doesn't do much more than the speed limit.  I usually let people pass.  I also live in Texas, am I a backwoods hillbilly?

Lets not go bashing NASCAR. Ill give that a good portion of the following may be in-bread, but there is also quite a few law abiding citizens who enjoy the sport. Yes sport.

For as many of them that are terrible drivers, there are 2 that will pull over if they are holding you up to help you pass. To be honest, give me the country road drivers over the city commuters putting on makeup, while texting, while shaving, while taking notes on the dashboard, while flying down the highway at 80MPH.

YMMV...

Hey, lighten up on NASCAR, I used to work in a NASCAR support machine shop, and there is a heck of a lot of money to be made there.

Not sure about the 'redneck' thing or NASCAR...

However, I just chalk it up as most people are total shitheads, until proven otherwise. Sure, I'm super bitter, but since I have been back in the saddle the last month or so, I am finding that people are driving worse then ever. I am also going to go out on a limb and say that people in Massachusetts are driving exceptionally douchy lately. It's getting so bad around here, that I hate even leaving the house to go anywhere because I know that someone is going to pull some super frustrating bullshit. The most common thing of late, is people cutting me off, then realizing they cut me off, then hitting the brakes in the middle of them cutting me off! Leaving the "Did I just cut you off?" 'stand off' thing in the middle of road, stopping traffic in all directions. Then looking at me, like I am the asshole.

Just this morning, some guy blows the stop sign as I approach the intersection and I need to slam on the brakes. I give him a universal hand gesture while blowing the horn and he curses me out. "Um, I didn't have a stop sign, asshole? No, YOU did and you know it." Did I mention that I was on the bike this morning? And not to feed to much into the original theme of the tread, but he was driving a new Ford F350. OK, so maybe I fed into it a little...

Anyway, I think it might be time to do less commuting on the bike and more riding on the track. It's just getting nuts out there...and it's bumming me out. It's becoming more stress then fun.

Obviously the bike and truck that passed you HAVE ridden/driven that road before and were comfortable going faster than you.  Try not to get your panties in a bunch next time you venture out of the suburbs.

Hey, If I'm cruisin 55mph on a back road that I don't know and a monster truck passes me at 90, I am considering it my fullback.  Follow him through the hole.  Let him get the ticket.  I would gamble in the corners that if he can make it, I can make it (how many times will that thought get you in trouble).

Usually they go that fast because they are driving straight through the corners, double yellow be damned. ;)

Oddly enough, here in the mountains I live in Billy-Bob in his big bad pick-up truck is the first to see if you need help when you're sitting on the side of the road broken down, flat tire, out of gas etc..  You might also wanna take a closer look at who's driving the pickup.  True, most of the locals in the mountains here drive work trucks and any manner of truck, BUT they're usually not the ones driving like a maniac.  Lack of authority?  Whatever.  You wanna see something REALLY dangerous?  How about that H2 from the city that doesn't understand what happens when you're on the brakes in a heavy SUV constantly while descending one of the long, twisty mountain roads.

FWIW - I live in the mountains, drive a pickup truck too.  Probably faster than most people think I should too.

Those UPS and FedEX trucks go like they are on rails.  It is amazing the motivation you have when your work day consist on how fast you empty your truck.  Power to 'em.  They bring me most of my expensive little Monster add-ons.  So, Godspeed UPS man, Godspeed!

just watch out for Bubba with the truck that has Georgia plates & the "I'm not tailgating, I'm Drafting" bumper sticker.

Truthfully, no worse than the M*sshole from Lexington that cut off an Exploder on 128, rolling it & a Durango over in rush hour traffic, killing 2 people.

I got cut off in traffic yesterday by a pick up that had a bunch of Harley Davidson and "Look out for motorcycles" stickers on the back. The guy was on his cell phone. The irony made me laugh rather than road raging.
