Title: Picking Up a Used 695
Post by: TightLines on May 26, 2009, 05:43:28 PM
I'm going to pick up a used 2007 695 this weekend as a first bike.  Everything seems to be in great condition (cosmetically) with a low key owner and very limited mileage.

I have read around about key things to look at when buying any used bike but I'm curious if there are any things particular to the 695 that I should pay attention to.

Thanks everyone for the help and expect to see me around.

Nothing different from what you've already read I'm sure. Make sure to get all the keys(red one) and if they have the card to get new keys, that would be a plus.
Are there any mods already done with it?

No mods to the bike, which I am happy about.

I'll definitely have to find out about the key and card situation. These are the kinds of points I needed.

What is the red key for?

Red key is coded so you can make other keys in the event you lost the blacks.

At the risk of asking repetitive questions: if the red key is to make copies then what is the purpose of the card?

Thanks again for the help and keep the used 695 tips coming.

The card has a code on it so you can override the imobilizer if need be.

That's what the card was for, I was thinking it was to get replacement keys. Thanks for the correction [thumbsup]

You'll want to check for service records - he should have record of the 600 mile service and oil changes every 2.5-3k - You said it's low mileage so I doubt it's at or near the 7,500 mile service.

I have the same bike and haven't had any quirky issues to worry about.  Something to keep in mind, though, is that Ducatis come with a 2 year warranty and the one for that bike will be up shortly if not already.  I had a couple little items - a seal and an ECU replacement done under warrenty but those sort of things are bike specific, not model specific.

once you get your bike, make sure that it hasn't been lowered by the previouse owner, i had to put mine back to stock height when i got it.

good luck, its a great bike.

Thanks for the input, especially about the ride height.

Ends up the seller is unable to find service records for the 600 mile service and now she is "assuming it was never done." The bike again is a 2007 and only has 900 miles on it so I'm not sure how much of a concern this actually is. I assume there would be a check engine light that comes on at 600 miles and the owner must have either turned it off (which I doubt) or had the service done and forgot about it.

The bike is unfortunately just out of warranty.

She does, however, have all of the keys and immobilizer card.

Thoughts?

you can reset that light by just using your key and holding the buttons while starting the bike....So thats probably a reason for it.
I would bring it to the next dealer and give her a service anyway...

Assuming if she did the 600mile service- she would of done it at the dealer she purchased the bike from, you can just call the dealer  and request the service history, they should have all of that on file.

The 600mi service is little more than an oil change.  The rest is just visual inspection.  If the bike only has 900mi, I wouldn't sweat it at all.  Just change the oil and ride.  [thumbsup]
