Brian the boxer might possibly have infectious tracheobronchitis (kennel cough). I've been lucky in that I've never had a dog suffer from this until now. Started in the middle of the night last night and didn't hear from our day care dude until after work that it had gotten pretty bad throughout the day. He's had all his vaccinations so is it still possible for him to get this?
I'll get him into the vets tomorrow but is there anything to help suppress the coughing between now and then? I found a mixture of warm water and raw honey would help sooth the throat which he seems to like. Is too much raw honey for a dog harmful?
I'm supposed to go to Miller for superbike this weekend (Randimus is in FL already for the w/end). Pet sitters lined up have a dog but I'm doubting he should be around other dogs until he gets a clean bill of health.
Anyone want to come to Denver tomorrow and hang with Brian until Sunday night? :) Any thoughts, input on his symptoms?
Thanks!
Ok, Kennel cough isn't *that* serious, but it can turn into something serious. If he starts getting a kind of wheezing cough, that's bad. You'll need to do "couppage" on the poor guy--basically patting his chest with cupped hands. You can look it up on the Internet (Wikipedia is a good resource.) And you'll need to get him to a vet. I'm sure your pup will be fine, but take extra care.
Good luck & hugs,
E
Hopefully B gets better P!
Sorry..can't help with the kennel cough. My dogs..luckily..haven't had any experience with it.

Sorry to hear Stella. Even if he got the Bordetella vaccine (the nose drops) it can vary a lot with the strain, just as the human flu vaccine does not cover all varieties of the flu.
You're correct he should be isolated for now. Hope he gets better quickly.
Feel better soon, Brian.
Hmmm...weekend in Denver with the vicious guard dog or put brakes on my new car...now where did I put that emergency flight to Denver cash...
He should be fine Polly. But unfortunately, he should also be kept away from other mongrels for now...my JRT got it and passed it on to the rat terrier and the German Shepard/Lab mix in the house pretty quickly. They were all fine after a couple of days but it was kind of nerve wracking.
For sure will keep him away from other pups but the timing stinks with both of us out of town for the weekend.
But huge [clap] and [bow_down] to Bicks who offered to step in and hang with Brian for the weekend. It's so him.
Some interesting things I'm learning â€" thanks everyone for the input! ("Coupage" - that should have been a word on tonight's Nat'l. Spelling Bee!) I've had my share of fosters and my own 4-legged boy with various health issues but this one hasn't come up yet. Sounds like all will be good but like I said, timing stinks.
Thanks again all!! :)

+1. Keep him away from Randy.
Not too hard to do since he's been out of town nearly all month! Odd thing is that I'm coughing like the dog! Maybe the vet will give us extra meds that he and I can share. ;D
woof.
Also be careful with getting the vacine. My dog got it from the nose spray. (She is never around other dogs) and now she gets the shot.
Kennel cough sucks. My puppy had it when I brought her home from the pound (right after her spay - it was a rough week for her). My 13 yr old lab got it from her, though my other pup was resilient and never caught it. Pretty sure they just took a pill and all was well in about a week.
As suspected, kennel cough plus a lot of bacteria in the poo (which we've been battling for a while). 10 days with no contact with other dogs and more changes to his diet for the poo thing.
[roll] Kids.
poor brian :(
i hope he feels better soon.

Day care dude? If you take your dog to a day care with other dogs that's where he got it. My JRT had it when we brought her home the first time, she got it one more time at dog day care. Needless to say she doesn't go to dog day care anymore. I just have a dog walker come once a day.
