I would look this up in my owners manual, but finding that is an endeavor unto it's own. I'm at around 18.5k and every time I start the bike I get a "Ma Intvl" notification on the left LCD before it goes back to the ODO display. It's an '05 800 and I know the intervals are 6k so here's my question.
I bought the bike at 11.6k and as an impulse buy with little knowledge about Ducatis I didn't ask if they'd done the 12k maintenance. The thing ran like a champ, but rather than assume and screw some internals up I figured I'd fork over the $400 for some piece of mind at 15k miles.
That being said, my engine has started to make sort of a vague clicking sound coming from the right side. I was following the thread about engine noise for the last couple of days, but I took it in to my shop guy just to be sure. He said just so long as it's running well (it is) and I'm not seeing any other adverse effects, just let it run unless it starts to get louder. Is the "ma intev" pre programmed to hit the screen within a certain mileage or is there basically a mileage counter where the service tech can reset the counter and it will give the indication after 6k miles. I ask because I've read that newer BMWs can tell when their valves are a bit out of whack and the bike will let the rider know when to take it in, so I just want to be sure I'm not gonna ride it into oblivion by ignoring this.
I'm a HUUUUUUUUGE hypochondriac when it comes to all my vehicles so I may just be working myself up for nothing, but if you techies have any advice, it would be much appreciated. I hope this isn't a Derby, but I did do some searching to no avail.
Our bikes (i also have an 05 s2r 800) are programmed to flash that "maintanance required" message at prescribed mileage intervals. To disable it, if i remember correctly, you press and hold the left button w/ the key in the ignition for 30 sec and then while you are still pressing said left button, turn the key to the "on" position.
