Title: Northbay Ride 6/7/09
Post by: GrendelsTwin on May 31, 2009, 01:50:02 AM
It's been too long since I've ridden Tam with the Ducati-folk, so next Saturday SUNDAY it's on like Donkey Kong.

Meet at Tambucks (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=starbucks&sll=37.881488,-122.524552&sspn=0.001596,0.004721&ie=UTF8&ll=37.882496,-122.524515&spn=0.001596,0.004721&z=18&iwloc=A) 8:00ish  Get caffinated, fueled and relieved whatever else you need to do to be ready to roll...
Stands up 8:43am PSAT&TT (that's pacific standard at&t time according to my mobile)

An extended northbay route  (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=247+Shoreline+HighwayUnits+A-4+%26+A-5,+Mill+Valley,+CA+94941+(Starbucks+Shoreline+%26+Almonte)&daddr=Panoramic+Hwy+to:Panoramic+Hwy+to:stinson+beach,+ca+to:Pt+Reyes+Station,+ca+to:Tomales,+ca+to:bodega+bay,+ca&hl=en&geocode=FcsHQgIdg2uy-CH5B1sXekKM3w%3BFVAYQgId_Pax-A%3BFSM-QgIdlAix-A%3B%3B%3B%3B&mra=ls&via=1,2&sll=38.1662,-122.816735&sspn=0.848629,2.697144&ie=UTF8&ll=38.144278,-122.713165&spn=0.814344,1.604004&z=9) is the plan. Basics are north on Shoreline North to Panoramic Hwy back to Hwy 1.  Continue North on Hwy 1 with stops in Pt Reyes & Bodega Bay at least.  Your input will help determine the final route.  Deviants with restraints are welcome.  Should you need to deviate from the route due to time restraints, you're also welcome.

The pace is your own.  No exceptions (see rule 1 below).

There are only three rules:
  • Don't crash
  • Don't be a dick
  • Let someone know if you're leaving

FAQs:

I'm a newb.  Can I come on this ride? - Sure.  As long as you know and respect your limits, have the basic skill set to ride twisties comfortably on your own already, and can follow three simple rules...

I'm a complete noob.  Can I come on this ride? - No.  You're a complete noob.  Stay home and learn how to ride.

What kind of gear do I need? - Full gear is preferred, but you won't be turned away for a little less.  If you only have a helmet, you should spend the day shopping for gear.

I have a friend that doesn't ride a Ducati.  Can he come? - This isn't the HA...  Any bike is welcome as long as it passes tech inspection.

There's a tech inspection? - No not really, but if your bike is crashed out and/or looks like it isn't going to make it the whole ride, you should spend the day fixing your scooter.

Is there anything I should bring? - Your paperwork (M1, insurance, reg) in case you get pulled over, some cash if you want anything to eat when we stop & some plastic for petrol.

What if I don't have all my paperwork? - Stay home and work on getting it.

Why can't I come if I'm a complete noob; My only gear is a helmet; my bike is mechanically unsound; or I don't have a license, registration and insurance?  I thought you said there were only three rules... - Those things all violate rule 2.

Is there any other advice you can give me? - Yes.  Quit asking so many questions, it makes you look like a complete noob...

ummm isn't it considered Indecent Exposure, which might land you in jail if you just show up with a helmet?

I might go, depending on my schedule. I'm kinda fatigued out from Saturday. If I recover by Friday night I will attend.

It might, unless it's the annual Vampires Naked Ride (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgGTOslw7_s#lq-hq-vhq)... Hope you're rested up by the weekend.

I originally had Saturday free and plans on Sunday, but since it looks like Sunday is going to be the better riding day those plans can get flipped.  Priority =  [moto]

Unless things change dramatically, things are switched to Sunday.

You're always welcome 'Belle.  The rides I attend further north have no rules.  Let's just say I have learned to watch my mirrors and guard my kill switch...  [laugh]

  • Let someone know if you're leaving

Tambucks is the Tam Junction Starbucks.  Shopping center at the corner of Shoreline & Almonte in Mill Valley.  The word "Tambucks" in the first post is linked to google maps.

Would pushing the start time back help make anyone probable or even definite?

I know where the Starbucks is. (SO.... if I go, we can meet there at the Starbucks. - directing this to W7ck7d) I'm still up in the air on it... but I'll know by tonight. I came down with a possible cold but I ended up staying in bed until noon. I feel much better now but I will pay it by ear. My ear is very talented. It would be better for me to start at 9a.m. so I will be able to get up at 6a.m. rather than 5a.m. but it's dependent on me going. If I'm the only one you'd change the meeting time for, it's really up to you if you'd rather meet at 8:00 a.m.

BTW it's prolly easiest to meet somewhere off 280N (for the people coming from the south bay)

i might join this ride if i find tha meeting place.if not see you in STP.

9 is fine with me because I'm doing the A's-luxury box thing tonight and I KNOW tomorrow will feel early if we shove off at noon.

in that case... pending my health, I'll plan on leaving SJ by 7:15... don't wanna get any speeding tickets on the way there.

Unless someone has a better suggestion for the people riding up from the San Jose area, I'd recommend meeting at 7a.m. in SJ at the Pizza Antica at Santana Row (since that's a common location for ducati riders to meet anyways) for anyone who wants to ride up to the north bay starbucks. Leave Pizza Antica by 7:15 a.m. If you're late just head directly to the starbucks.

If I end up not going, it's probably a good idea to keep the south bay meeting time/location as a pre-ride meet for everyone else who wants to to to the north bay ride start location.

SouthBay pre-Ride from Santana Row Pizza Antica meet up at 7:00 a.m. (leave 7:15 a.m.)... if you get there late just head to the Starbucks North Bay.

South Bay ride route up north:
- 280N
- 35S
- 1N
- Great Highway into SF
- Turn L at about 20-24th St... go a couple blocks then Turn R
- Turn L onto the road that crosses GG Bridge and cross the bridge
- take the exit after coming out of the tunnel (forgot the name) - it turns into the road that goes past Starbucks.

John (w7ck7d) it does not seem like this ride is going through stp.- see you at the snellbucks mellow ride maybe? I'm going to take a small group reverse route after the ride with a quicker pace.

I'm out, the straight to curvy road ratio is a bit to offset from the south end of the south bay. ride safe

It was a good ride on a beautiful day.

Three of us met at Tambucks, where we had some coffee and waited a bit for stragglers.  We rolled out around 9:40 and wandered up the coast to Bodega.  We turned around and back tracked to Tomales, then made our way down Chileno Valley to D street.  We chatted for a bit, then took D street into Petaluma and called it a day.

Aside from me almost strafing a park ranger on Mt Tam, there were zero LEO issues.  [thumbsup]

I have a couple of pics my cell phone.  Once I download them and find my photobucket account info I'll post them.   [cheeky]
