Title: 14t on 2002 900ie - slow revving and seems to run flat Post by: DucRulz on June 01, 2009, 11:03:16 AM Swapped out the 15t on my father-in-laws 900ie, (everything else is pretty much stock) but now he said it seems to be slower revving and the pull seems to be flat, and not spunkier. I saw below that it was not the best to do with a 520 set-up, but that discussion was on front and back change, hoping for some input on just changing front. Go back to stock or something else to check?
Any ideas? Thanks I talked him into it after changing the front on my S4R. I was impressed with performance but the first two gears were shortened too much. I found myself shifting more often than I would have liked to. Also, I use the highway quite a bit and the revs were sitting noticeably higher in 6th gear.
If anything, the 14T made it "spunkier". I found the front wheel coming off the ground a little easier in 1st and 2nd gear. I think the '02's stock gearing is pretty verstatile. It only gets annoying in traffic and very low speeds (10MPH and under). I'm back to my stock 15T for now and liking it for my riding style. The 14 is cheap enough to keep around for spontaneous use. That doesn't sound right... I would guess there's something else going on. Does he tend to stay high in the revs where the torque curve tapers off? ??? You could always swap back to 15t to compare, but 14t made a significant improvement for me.
