Title: front sprocket play
Post by: beastie on June 01, 2009, 08:28:11 PM
97 M900

Was installing a new sprockets and chain today and noticed that the front had some play in it. Kind of up and down or left and right. The sprocket lock is on and all.

I had no way of comparing it, since I did not have a sprocket lock on there in the 1st place!! I just got a used one and slapped it on today. Is this small amount of play normal??

I appreciate the help guys.  [thumbsup]

I have a different bike, ('03 620) and I have a slight amount of front  sprocket play.

Just to clarify, the play is on the sprocket to shaft and not the shaft itself correct?

Yes, it is from the sprocket and NOT the shaft.

I kind of thought it was normal so...everything is good  [thumbsup]

Thanks guys

You should keep an eye on the clip.  I had one completely wear through the teeth so that it no longer worked.  The same has happened on other ST2's as well.  I would peek in there every 1000 miles or so to make sure the clip is still in good shape.  My second clip is not showing any wear like the previous one.
