It was a sad day for the owner of this amazing car:

Seems it hadn't been driven in about six months and after a run the day before, the driver was just out cruising around when it just burst into flames!!!
I hope that his insurance will cover the $2 million dollar price tag!!!
that'll buff right out
They should have it sent back to the factory and turn it into an LE or GT.
Seen worse damage than that and the Mclaren boys have rebuilt them, I think the TV show 5th Gear had a segment about a Ferrari that had been crashed, they took it back to the Factory and rebuilt it, it cost a make the beast with two backsing fortune!! but they mentioned that most Supercar companies offer a rebuild service after a crash, they mentioned also Mclaren, Zonda, Lambo and a couple of others.
They had pictures of some of the wrecks rebuilt, One Mclaren had been put into an Armco barrier at a track, So it's front and left side badly damaged, then the engine bay had been on fire, the next shot was of the car rebuilt!
when these first came out, car and driver used to keep a running tally of how many were still alive.
what is that jackass fireman going to do with an ax???? they will tear up anything just to do it! >:(

They love that shit! When my 72 Chevelle SS 454 convertible caught fire, the F-ers opened the door and firehosed the interior, full blast to the dash etc. The fire was very obviously contained in the engine compartment.... [roll]
saw larry ellison driving his on hwy 280 outside of atherton a few years ago...my jaw nearly dropped.

This Enzo is currently being rebuilt using the body panels and wheels taken off the donor car for Jim Glickenhaus' P4/5.
Supposedly will have a turbo motor to put it at 1000 bhp. Tub repair is being done by a military composite contractor.
The repair work they can do on these things is incredible.

That used to live down the street from me. I had no idea it was going to be rebuilt.

Very obviously contained by metal
which conducts heat
to things
like the dashboard and wiring

Woulda been fine.....
fire was extinguished early
and was from the air cleaner forward.
Not even close to the firewall.
These were a couple
of shiny helmeted newbies that,
I think,
wanted to try out the fire hose....

too true.
and besides, as soon as there is a fire under the hood, the insurance co. considers it a write off.
I knew a guy that owned a couple of Ferrari F1 cars from the 90s. Ferrari would pay the shipping/engine-suspension setup/maintenance/fuel and pit charges for special events where they were being used by famous drivers. He could also drive them and anyone else that he wished. If whoever crashed the car, they rebuilt it back to like new condition.
That's funny, i worked on a movie (Redline) where the producer used his own cars in the movie. Lamborghini trannies were not meant to be towed behind a camera truck. Trannie broke, car was totaled. Still needed to shoot so he bought a new one. [popcorn] Again tore up the trannie, again, car totaled. [bow_down]
Some men you just can't teach. [bang]
(and yes, i know the movie blew, but those were some nice cars.)

The very same. Buried a lot of cool cars. He had a stable of 14 supercars. MacLaren, Murcialago, GT, Enzo, etc. The plane in the movie was also his (didn't wreck that). There's a scene in the movie where a Carrera gets hit and flips through the air and just smashes into the ground... I'm pretty sure the idea of the stunt was for the car to spin accross the rode... the flip was unplanned... i wasn't in on the meetings or anything, but that's the impression i got when everyone poured into the office to watch the dailies. "Oh shit look what we did now!!!"
I forget the deal with the Enzo thing... i think it was during publicity... i was well done with it by then.
