Can anybody recommend a good place to get a custom paint job?
The guy I share my shop with is an awesome painter.
What are you looking for?
He's not flames and airbrush.

I'm looking for a simple paint job maybe with a little vinyl/pinstriping.

Yep, he fixed my S4R tank and painted the entire bike. He's fairly well known but was very reasonable on cost.
I believed he also painted Jeff H's monster...... and countless others: http://www.google.com/search?q=boris+landoff&rls=com.microsoft: (http://www.google.com/search?q=boris+landoff&rls=com.microsoft:)*:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7ADBR

My guy can do that.
He can do vinyl striping, or you can have brush pinstriping.

I've seen some of Boris's work, and it's very good.
I can recommend two painters:
tmarkus (from what i've been told, some dealerships take their custom-machines to him) www.tmarkus.com (//http://) -vintage, sport, classic stuff... really gorgeous. I would have taken my bike to him except he's far away.
and the painter who works in conjunction with my mechanic Wilson @ belmont cycle in Long Beach. (http://belmontcycle.com/ (http://belmontcycle.com/))
Here is my bike: http://belmontcycle.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/docs/Blue_Ducati_logo.71115845.jpg (http://belmontcycle.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/docs/Blue_Ducati_logo.71115845.jpg)
and the before/after tank refurbish + paint job: http://belmontcycle.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/docs/Tank_repair_Before_and_after_copy.71113117.jpg (http://belmontcycle.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/docs/Tank_repair_Before_and_after_copy.71113117.jpg)
Call Wilson and ask about paint... he specializes in Ducatis. great guy.

He doesn't want to be found ;)
You don't find Trouble. Trouble finds you. :P
Should I post reference pics? ;D

That's odd that I have never heard of either of them. Usually you add up Long Beach and Ducati and I would have heard of the mechanic at least. Looks like he is working out of his garage??

yes, he is. but don't let it fool you- his prices are good and the work is terrific. it's a very small operation (*VERY* small) so I probably wouldn't recommend it to someone who has warranty issues with their bike but Wilson provides amazing service- he takes pride in his work and is truly passionate about ducati (and alfa romeo, lol). if there's other minor things that need tweaking besides the main problem he'll usually just take care of that anyway. i've seen him help with all sorts of mods, breathe life into a box of 1960's vespa parts, revive decrepid things from the moto-morgue... i've been impressed time and again and every time I've brought my bike there it feels AMAzing when i've gotten it back. He's (from what i understand) also much easier to get ahold of than the other dude in signal hill... who seems to be perpetually booked.
If you want the best, and I mean THE best custom paint money can buy, go see Chris Wood at AirTrix (www.airtrix.com (//http://))
He has painted all of our bikes for the last 5 years, RSD's bikes, Matt Hotch, anyone thats really paint intense uses him. He paints EVERY Red Bull helmet, and most of the top guys in AMA and WSB.
Not cheap, but really is a DiVinci in a land of house painters.
thanks everyone.. I've definitely got plenty of options now. I'll post up once I do get it.
my 2 cents: Speedzone in El Cajon (east of san diego) does nice work. i've
had him do upper fairing repair and paint on the (aluminum) tank of the 851.
