Title: Text & photo printer question ~
Post by: the_Journeyman on June 03, 2009, 11:15:26 AM
Got a question to those that stay around printers & similar stuff.  I need a good basic printer that I can do excellent pictures with but also double as a standard printer for text documents.  I've looked around and will stay with inkjet for now.  I've not bought a printer since I bought my long worn out Canon S630.

I'm looking at a HP Deskjet 6940 & a Canon Pixma iP3600.  The HP lists 4800 color dpi, the Canon lists 9600 x 2400 color dpi.  The HP is $20 more, at  $99.  Any idea which printer is better?  I'd like to stay under $100.  I also see a Epson that touts "laser-like" black prints, but it's $129.  Worth spending the extra on?  I just need some input because I'm pretty out of the loop with printers ~

I'm staying with Staples simple because I've got a $25 coupon for online or phone orders.

i've got a Canon similar to that one at home....does a good job.
HP will kill you on cartridge costs down the road.

The bottom line: The HP Deskjet 6940 isn't a top-of-the-line inkjet, but with its affordable price, networkability, and decent print quality, it's a good choice for students in a dorm room and budget-conscious home office users

Summary: The Epson WorkForce 40's extreme print speeds are impressive. But for its small-office audience, the expensive ink, disappointing print quality, and design hassles make it a dubious choice

Thanks, I was leaning toward Canon due to good experiences with a few at home and at work.  This pushes me even more toward it ~

this wont help you at all, but i decided a long time ago to keep my word printer and my picture printer separate.

If I had to budget, I'd have a small laser printer for text and a separate photo printer.  I print so little text it'll have to do

Either way, I ordered the Canon iP3600 last night for $60 shipped.
