Post by: elephantrider70 on June 03, 2009, 02:22:52 PM
is this a common issue ?
how does a nut loosen that is supposed to be torqued at 187lbs fall off?
do you think it was a weak mechanic?

Wrong torque, wrong/no Loctite.
It`s also important to use the right washer on the 3phase models.
Or just bad luck.

Any other damage?

luckily not much, the nut was wasted and the stator windings were chewed, its all good now! [thumbsup]
torqued up and loctited, funny thing is it didnt look like the cover had ever been removed.

Common enough that Nichols make an aftermarket double/jam nut arrangement to replace the oem one...
