I'm trying to get my bike nack up and running after my clutch failure. (thread here: http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=24411.0 (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=24411.0) )
I've heard that an 800SS clutch will fit and work in my S2r. I've found one for considerably less than what they want for a new s2r part. Can anybody tell me definitively if the clutch out of an '04 800SS will fit my '06 S2r 800. Don't want to waste my money. :-\
Thanks!
Dave (hopefully not Monster-less for much longer! [clap])
I don't know if you can "get" it to work w/ the s2r, but the part #'s for the s2r clutch parts and the 800SS are pretty different. Maybe someone else can chime in w/ more knowledge.
I did the swap on my 620 with the APTC. You need the entire clutch basket off the 800ss. It's recomended to replace the crank primary gear at the same time, Ducati does not sell it with out buying a new basket at the same time. I elected to reuse mine, so far so good.
The clutch pushrod is the same part number so you can reuse yours. It's an easy install but I would recomend an impact for removing the nut on the basket.

So it'll work with the complete clutch assy. The one I found is complete from the basket to pressureplate/springs. Are there any other benefits to doing this swap? I'm pretty used to the slipper. Will it be drastically different?
Thanks!
Dave
if it's not an ATPC from the supersport, you'll loose the slipper effect. it's not the end of the world by a long shot, but it will take some getting used to. You'll just have to develop your clutching skills on the downshift is all.
Sounds like it has everything you need. As Yuu said you will loose the slipper effect, you will also about double the lever effort. I'm not sure the slipper effect ever worked corectly on mine, I have locked the rear tire on downshifts. '04 was one of the first years of the APTC though so improvements may have been made. When you look at how it works, the "slipper" is a poor design when compaired to a true slipper clutch.
I like the feel better without the APTC, I find it has a more predictable feel & lever pull.
