Title: Handlebar vibration issues Post by: Serious Groper on June 08, 2009, 06:55:49 PM I know v-twins are rough bikes bit it seems the S4R is causing me major hand problems. To the point i ride the bike only twice a week because 'i have to'. I did not have issue with my previous Firestorm, i had some wrist pain from the MV but that was position related.
I already have 4 pairs of gloves and they make no difference. I purchased heavier bar ends today so i will fit those tonight but i don't expect a dramatic improvement going from other people's comments. If the bar ends don't work i will buy a pair of those foam grips which slip over the stock grips. A lot of touring riders use them to help vibration issues. What else can i try? Title: Re: Handlebar vibration issues Post by: DosVerde on June 08, 2009, 07:18:14 PM Filling the bar with sand will help dampen vibration.
Or maybe just losen your grip. Title: Re: Handlebar vibration issues Post by: Serious Groper on June 08, 2009, 08:06:38 PM I was going to pack the stock bars with lead shot as a last resort which will work better than sand.
I bought a throttle rocker which is pretty cool although it's really geared for open roads. The first time i used it was in peak hour which sucked as i continually bumped it which make the bike accelerate when i wasn't expecting to :o Title: Re: Handlebar vibration issues Post by: CairnsDuc on June 08, 2009, 10:09:03 PM I had the same problem with my S2R 800, The biggest thing I found made life easier, I fitted large diameter Foam grips, Shoot down to a local bicycle store and get some thick foam grips, it absorbs a lot of the vibration and opens up your hand more than the original diameter grips,
Much better and a fairly cheap mod! ;D I also found I was having to lean forward a bit much, I threw on a set of Speedymoto Handlebar risers, and that also made a difference Title: Re: Handlebar vibration issues Post by: Serious Groper on June 08, 2009, 10:44:15 PM Cheers Mate on the grip idea.
I was looking for a set of those on the weekend but the bike shops didn't seem to carry them. So you reckon bicycle shops are the go aye? I'll hopefully have time tomorrow to zip out to one of the shops. Is there a specific size or brand i can direct myself towards? Title: Re: Handlebar vibration issues Post by: mattyvas on June 09, 2009, 02:03:58 AM SG, two of us used Razor scooter foam grips to ride about 3000+ k's to WSBK earlier in the year.
They were a treat, just used an air compressor to push air into them as they were being squeezed over Rizoma grips. No fatigue issues at all and in fact it felt odd when I took them off and went back to normal grips. Hope you solve your problems. It's very unlikely, but do check your engine mount bolts - particularly the rear one. If they loosen off (and while not "common", it is a "known problem") the bike will start to shake a fair bit more than normal. (it'll also do some quite expensive damage in the long run, so check it anyway...) big Title: Re: Handlebar vibration issues Post by: Serious Groper on June 09, 2009, 10:25:31 PM I'll check it tonight when i get home. Given the mechanic who setup my bike had each fork at very different settings, i wouldn't put it past them to f%ck something else up aswell.
FYI my left mirror doesn't vibrate but my right mirror vibrates a lot and is pretty much useless. I figured it was just a bad mirror, both mirrors on my old MV F4 were just as bad ??? Anyhoo we shall see. I'll be ordering 'grip puppies' from the US. I called a lot of stores trying to get foam grips but none around and i CBF wasting time. Much easier to call the US and buy them from a shop. Title: Re: Handlebar vibration issues Post by: Two dogs on June 15, 2009, 05:28:25 PM + 1 for the grip puppies cheap @ $US 8 I ordered 2 pairs from their web site
also gives a nice thick handful ;) for those that have bigger hands that is ;D. Title: Re: Handlebar vibration issues Post by: sydmonster on June 15, 2009, 11:27:13 PM +1 on engine mounts
+1 on checking engine over - Check the both bar holders are evenly tight, the bars might not move with one tight, but a loose one transfers more vibration - Check that the steering stem nuts/plates are also done up properly *athough << that isnt exactly the easist thing to to. Hope that helps you. - Chris Title: Re: Handlebar vibration issues Post by: Serious Groper on June 15, 2009, 11:35:46 PM An update on this:
Friday i had the bike at my mechanic down the road. Basically the person who set the bike up is a muppet, had the right fork on different settings than the left. They also had the bars setup incorrectly by a long shot and the riders not done up correctly. After having the suspension and handlebars corrected, the vibrations decreased massively and i was able to do the 320km ride on Saturday and move my hands the next day which is a first. So it looks like this has solved my problems but i will continue to ride on a few times a week until my hands are back to normal. [moto] |
