Title: Backfire on decel and stalling/choke on accell Post by: DucRulz on June 09, 2009, 07:41:06 AM Here is the skinny- 2007 S4R pretty much stock- Installed Akrapovic Evolution Exhaust- started backfiring when coast or decel and running rough in city slower driving. Got a flashed ECU with DP specs (DP 96511703B). Now it seems to backfire more and was stalling/cutting out at initial twist of throttle, with bad response. I read were I need to reset the throttle position sensor(TPS) would that correct most of this or do I need something else now? [bang]
Thanks for any $.02 you can throw my way Title: Re: Backfire and stalling on accell- after Exhaust and ECU install Post by: Bill in OKC on June 09, 2009, 10:03:56 AM Resetting the TPS is a must do. Get your own tool (technoresearch or other) to do it or take it to a dealer.
Title: Re: Backfire on decel and stalling/choke on accell Post by: DucRulz on June 09, 2009, 10:10:41 AM I am not much of a mechanic, would that cure these problems or just a must do? I will call the dealer, the tool would be nice but I don't plan on doing it again anytime soon. If I do the tool route for some reason, simple to reset?

Title: Re: Backfire on decel and stalling/choke on accell Post by: Monstermash on June 13, 2009, 08:37:26 AM As already stated you need to have your TPS reset.
It's fairly inexpensive and only takes a few minutes at the dealer. Title: Re: Backfire on decel and stalling/choke on accell Post by: DucRulz on June 15, 2009, 12:45:28 PM Dropped the bike of at Beaudry Motorsports this past Saturday for TPS reset. When I called to schedule an appointment, the guy on the phone was said "Well we can't just squeeze you in, it takes one of our top machanics, it's not like it is just a Suzuki or anything." Should be done by Wednesday the 17th.
I am not sure if he is just wanting to soak me of extra money or what, I think shop rate is like $85/hr. When I dropped the bike off, I went and purchased a K&N filter as well, and asked the guy at the service desk if I should leave it with him (incase it was going to be needed when they adjusted the TPS and other tune-up stuff), they wanted to charge a 1/2 hour to install it, then I gave a bad look >:( and he then he said like 1/4 hour. Is that all typical? But nobody else near me to work on it, besides Ducati Seattle which is 4+ hours away. Title: Re: Backfire on decel and stalling/choke on accell Post by: DucRulz on June 17, 2009, 08:36:57 PM OK, so the local Ducati Dealer called me back this afternoon. They're are saying that after the exhaust, flash ECU, and K&N filter, that the 07' S4R is still running lean, and doesn't seem to be getting enough fuel when twisting throttle.
He said I need a Power Commander now? What do I do, tell them to add it and be done because it will be optimum then? Or does this sound fishy? I told him I would call back in the morning. Thanks for any info.....again [beer] Title: Re: Backfire on decel and stalling/choke on accell Post by: Bill in OKC on June 17, 2009, 08:47:43 PM Not sure about the flashed ecu but the dp ecu in my bike can be made to run very rich. If the reflash was done as advertised the DDS should be able to richen it up. Was the o2 sensor removed/disconnected? These are exactly the kinds of reasons I got the Technoresearch tool. It has paid for itself several times over.
Title: Re: Backfire on decel and stalling/choke on accell Post by: DucRulz on June 17, 2009, 09:38:23 PM I did not disconnect or remove he o2 sensor. I thought because the ecu is not even supposed to look for it, that it doesn't even matter. Wrong? The flashed ECU is supposed to be just like the DP ECU and the same map that comes with the full Termi kit. But the Shop Guy is saying it's lean? [bang]
What are you saying about the technoresearch tool? Would that help, would I need it more than just this time to justify it? Do I buy the PCIII and have that installed and set-up by the Duc Shop?(would that be the end of it, atleast until I do another mod to the engine, etc...?) |
