Title: DP Airfilter and Box worth it? Best place to buy? Before or after TPS reset? Post by: DucRulz on June 09, 2009, 02:21:26 PM Installed Akrapovic Exhaust and DP ECU, running like crap! Getting TPS reset ASAP, but my questions is: DP Airfilter and mod box a big bonus? Also if so, can I have the TPS reset and then get the airfilter/box and add it later with needing to get the bike tweaked again?
Not sure if I can have the box and filter here before I can have the TPS reset, if I need to have it before I guess I can wait then. Title: Re: DP Airfilter and Box worth it? Best place to buy? After I installed my DP ecu, my bike wouldn't even start until the TPS was reset. The DP ecu was designed to run w/ an open airbox, high flow airfilter set up, so until you get those things, it will probably run rich. Once you install the open air box and high flow filter, you should be fine. Not sure if I can have the box and filter here before I can have the TPS reset, if I need to have it before I guess I can wait then. if your box is still stock, it's probably running pretty rich :edit: instead of DP box, you can always cut yours Title: Re: DP Airfilter and Box worth it? Best place to buy? Before or after TPS reset? Post by: Spain on June 10, 2009, 09:05:40 AM I have your answer:

Post by: DucRulz on June 10, 2009, 09:47:46 AM OK I will get a filter and airbox or cut mine, do I just trim the top with saws-all or dremmel? Probably a stupid question here, but there is that pad between my fuel tank and air box, that would also restrict airflow once I get a modded air box right (I would assume)? Do I just remove it, or modify it as well?
Yeah, I installed the ECU, turned key on, push ignition button and....NOTHING! Not even an attept to turn over. Turned off the key, waited then turned on, and she fired up, sick sounding but started. Is that delay a common thing at initial install ad first time key on? [bow_down] Awesome help Title: Re: DP Airfilter and Box worth it? Best place to buy? Before or after TPS reset? Post by: pennyrobber on June 10, 2009, 10:03:09 AM I just cut a hole more or less on the top and front of the box that follows the lines of the box itself. (Think where the box starts to flatten out on top.) The dremel worked great. I left the pad under the tank as it really doesn't make a difference to the airflow with how big the hole is that I cut. Some people just cut smaller wholes in the box especially on the back of the box that would be restricted by the pad though.

No, but seriously. Isn't the DP part just a cut stock airbox lid? The shop I took mine to cut the lid for me, so I can't recommend techiniques other than what's already been mentioned here. I have pics of it somewhere... Title: Re: DP Airfilter and Box worth it? Best place to buy? Before or after TPS reset? DP lid, from the looks of it, is exactly that I used a dremel, the sanded down all the melty bits... still have that foamy pad in there, though I guess I couldn't be buggered to take it off |
