I thought Sete would be further back than that.  Hmmm.  I wonder if he's gonna get the NickyDuc too.  Soon, we'll have two completely different GP9s.  Stoner's and everyone else's.  I guess if what they have is worked for Casey, they should keep it.  But developing two completely different bikes sounds like a lot of work.

Rossi is on it already.  Yowza.  He'd gonna put the hammer down this weekend.  He doesn't like being in third and liked losing (in his mind) at Mugello even less.

Title: Re: 2009 MotoGP Round 6 - Catalunya (Qualy Spoilers)
Post by: Jester on June 13, 2009, 11:13:57 AM
I really hope Rossi sticks around another couple years at least.  Lorenzo/Stoner/Rossi/Pedro/Dovi?/Spies?  and who knows else could make for a very interesting series in the coming years.  It would be badass if we could hit a point in the next season or two where we see 6+ bikes running up front.  Its pleasing to see Lorenzo riding this well.  He's Rossi's heir imo.  Smooth as silk and has the flair to keep things interesting.  Rossi always quotes motivation as the thing that keeps him in the sport.  If things stay as they are, he's got it on the other side of the wall.

Stoner's had a tough weekend for sure.  I didn't catch Quali, but was able to catch FP1.  He was shaking his head a lot.  Definately not happy with the bike.  Hopefully he'll get it sorted for the race and we can see a good fight.

I was just being facetious ;D

I watched the Motogp.com coverage at the Dainese Store, then went to Ace Cafe and saw it on Speed. Not as bad as I thought it would be...but still not adequate.

Someone needs to give Elias' ride to Melandri, Toseland's ride to Spies, someone's (Takahashi?) ride to Simoncelli.  And throw all the Ducs in the trash and start over.   'cept for Casey's, of course.

Sounded like he was sick since he mentioned coming down with something a day or two before...although he may have had a touch of heat stroke as a side effect. He looked terrible in the interview.

Speaking of balls while broken in half, I'll give Pedrobot his due, and Stoner as well who took 3rd in front of Dovi-on-fire while trying not to collapse and [puke].

3rd place is Stoner "giving up and just riding around the track for some points."  [laugh]

so fun!

if you watch that footage and read _this_ (http://www.motogpmatters.com/report/2009/06/16/2009_motogp_catalunya_race_report_triump.html) you really get a sense of what rossi was doing.

man jorge enters corners fast when he has a rabbit!

Notice Jorge's left elbow...

And BTW, when did they get the gravity amplifier working?
Those lean angles are F'n unreal.

Yeah. Maybe he needed a barf bag instead of a camelback?

those lean angles look insane there is no way they are really over that much and still actually sticking to the ground, right?

wtf? there isnt' much difference between them at that angle and a lowside at that point. he barely has is knee stuck out at all, it looks like what, the handlebars are maybe 5 inches off the ground if even that much, judging by the outside of his glove?

that is ridiculous!!!

you're not taking into consideration that the curb is coming up to meet them.

They're MotoGP racers.  They're on the edge of lowsiding pretty much every turn.  They routinely lose traction with the front and/or rear and use their knee to keep them from crashing.

I always liked Casey but now I'm giving him a bit more credit.
Puking at +150mph and getting 3rd. That's not just showing up. That's tough. That's unreal.

Maybe he's laying out a slick for the riders trying to catch him ;D

you're not taking into consideration that the curb is coming up to meet them.

The corner is also positive camber so it looks even more extreme.

i agree that the curb is coming up but that is what another 2 inches tops? then ok you do have the camber working for you.. so let's say that is another 2-5 inches of lean clearance.. but still that is insane!!!

you are talking the guys handlebars are probably what, 1 foot or maybe 14-16 inches above the ground if it was level at that point?  that is ridiculous!!

but still that has got to be even a bit crazy for those guys at that particular turn "damn you know the pavement is literally 5 inches way from my shoulder right now... and my head only like 10 inches from the ground at this point"...

no doubt those guys are super talented beyond belief, its just really strange seeing that humans can make bikes corner like that.

MotoGP guys get high mid-50s for their lean angles.  Hell, even Michelin Pilot Power 2Cts are supposed to give you something like a 54 51.2 degree max lean angle.  Well, that's what it looks like.

It looked like Spies repeatedly dragged his shoulder on the curbing at Miller.  I don't remember the turn, but it was a downhill chicane with a left hander immediately after a right hander.

P.S.  Those guys are not human.

what i think is funny is you guys goin' gaga over that pic when ben does this on flat pavement:

not to take anything away from any of these guys, though.

note: the 16(.5) inch tires have a TON of sidegrip. if you actually look at the profile of the tire, it'd make sense.

hell, even the "tall" dunlop 17in slicks have a crazy-large side contact patch.

Nothing but a bunch of electronics, smoke, and mirrors.   ;D

Occasionally they put the lean angles up on the television during the GP races and I've seen em crack into the 60's before.  They get pretty flat even without the curbing/camber help.

I've had a bike at a 270 degree lean angle.   :-\

Don't they get some insane lean angles for a fraction of a second as they plunge down the Corkscrew?  Is that where the Stoner pic is from?

oh come on, that's not even close to impressive.... like someone else said, its "ALL" traction control and electronics and other technical gizmos.. you can put anyone on those bikes and within 10 min anyone is pulling 60 degree lean angles no problem  ;D

sure he may be getting to 70 degrees of lean angle but that is easy he is "only" going about 60mph.

there is nothing challenging about that, its just way too pedestrian of a speed.  heck i go 104km/hr every day on the interstate (in a full upright position though).   [laugh] [laugh]
