Title: Eagan's Alaska to Florida record broken Post by: Carstarphen on June 12, 2009, 08:36:15 AM Long distance rider John Ryan shattered the Prudhoe Bay AK to Key West FL Ultimate Coast to Coast record at 3:10 PM EDT today, June 9, 2009. He broke Ducati rider Gary Eagan's 96 hour 1 minute record by 7 hours 44 minutes by BMWMOA calculations.
The 13 page thread of Ryan's achievement is here: http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php?t=36308 (http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php?t=36308) There will be other threads on other forums such as the ADVRider. Title: Re: Egan's Alaska to Florida record broken Post by: Langanobob on June 13, 2009, 08:06:39 AM Incredible accomplishment. I would take weeks for that trip and probably have a lot more fun. But I have to respect those guys who ride like that whatever their motivation may be. Some kind of two-wheeled primal scream?
Title: Re: Egan's Alaska to Florida record broken Post by: Howie on June 13, 2009, 08:03:11 PM I know John Ryan. I am not surprised. I might have been surprised if he did this on his good ol' K75.
Title: Re: Egan's Alaska to Florida record broken Post by: DoubleEagle on June 13, 2009, 09:29:55 PM That is one amazing feat.
Anyone, .....where would you rank this in comparison to other great adventure feats ? Sir Richard Branson going around the World in a Balloon ? Bear Grylls being, at the time , the youngest person ( other than Sherpas ) to summit Mt. Everest after having broken his back from a parachute drop gone bad while in the British Special Forces previously. Dolph :) Title: Re: Egan's Alaska to Florida record broken Post by: Dave R on June 13, 2009, 10:20:38 PM pretty sure that was the run where Gary got knocked off his Mutli at the beginning of the ride? He dislodged the spare tank on the bike, fixed that and went on only to discover he also broke his wrist in the crash as well..

Sir Richard Branson going around the World in a Balloon ? ... Hard to rank these things. Richard Branson's achievement is impressive and took a lot of money and preparation so that there are only a very few who could even make such an attempt. To do something like Eagan (there Scott, I fixed it and thanks, I didn't know the correct spelling) and Ryan requires only a motorbike and there are untold thousands of us who can make the attempt, but still only a very few do so. A little bit like the fellow who paddled his folding Klepper kayak solo across the Atlantic. Anybody can attempt it but only one guy ever did. A sport not for everyone and it's interesting that most all the Iron Butt riders seem to have a lot of gray hair. People keep trying to spell it like how Peter Egan spells his name. People keep trying to spell it like how Peter Egan spells his name. We all knew who was being talked about. If he hadn't been such a sell out to DNA afterwards I would care as much as you. |
