I noticed the "Ducati Intercom System" made by Twiin on the Ducati accessories site. The idea that riding should ideally be done in silence really resonates with me. However, I'm on-call one week out of 4 and during that time need to be able to respond by phone at a moment's notice, so some sort of headset appeals greatly. I don't see much use in my case for an actual intercom system.

The DIS / Twiin system appears to have a more compact and flatter housing than many I've seen. The mic is also flat and on a cable instead of bulky and on a boom so appears much more appropriate for mounting inside a full-face helmet. On the other hand, the buttons appear kind of tiny for gloved fingers to use without significant fumbling.

Is there anyone here with experience with this system in either its Ducati or OEM incarnations?

i thought about this once upon a time when i was on  call (which was all summer long for years and years.) in the end it wasnt worth it (to me.) i just relied on the vibrating feature of my phone. put it in a shirt pocket close to the skin.

When I'm on-call, I'm seriously on-call. There's even a Federal reg that says that if I'm not present in the ED within 30 minutes of the initial attempt to reach me that I could potentially be personally liable for up to $50,000 in fines. That's not to mention more realistic concerns about good patient care. On top of call, I'm the medical director of my department, so the buck stops with me even when others are on-call.

If I get a call, that means I have to pull over, yank off my helmet and a glove, dig out the phone, etc., etc. In practical terms that translates to no riding when I'm on-call. Given the weather this spring in NH I'd really rather not miss any good riding days that present themselves.

how many intercoms can you buy with $50,000  ;D

I heard very good things about the Nolan N-com system they have built into their helmets. One bloke was quite happy taking business calls on it whilst riding his Harley  :o

Interesting, my brother is often "on call" for his IT department and must respond within 15 minutes or he faces the wrath of his hospital. 

Does Jawbone make a headset that could be used on a bike?  Elimination of the road and engine noise would be really great.
