I have a 2007 S2R 800 and while i was out my clutch seemed strange. Which is weird because it has been perfectly fine. The lever pulls in but does not release fully or smoothly it kind of stops and goes out. The clutch doesn't seem to catch. I managed to get back and checked the fluid level which was fine. I looked at the line which was fine. I checked for air bubbles and bled it. I stopped after taking off the slave because i realized I didn't know what to actually look for. When the clutch is pulled in and released the noise of it all sounds like a creaky door all very dry and terrible sounding. I apologize for the vagueness and poor description. Thanks in advance for any insight.
I had some creaking noise a while back on my lever. I just sprayed some WD40 where the lever pivots; problem solved.
Lever would still ge back smoothely though, so not sure if your problem is the same.
It sounds like your pressure plate or clutch plates are hanging up on the basket. I don't know anything about wet clutches but I think you're gonna have to take a look inside.
The problem could be in the slipper as well. If your bike is still under warranty I would speak to the dealer. Clutch wear (plates) is not warranty, but a defect would be.
With a hydrolic clutch the lever sticking on the way is going to have nothing to do with the operation of the actual clutch, the slave cylinder is not directly linked to the clutch push rod, and could therefore return freely even if anything in the clutch was sticking.
I'd guess it was either your lever pivot, you can test that out just by lubing it up (wd-40 or even some white lithium grease) also take your lever off and inspect the pivot area, or it is actually your master cylinder failing, it could be that the piston is hanging up inside the bore. I good rebuild will take care of it, but I'd see the dealer about warrenty if it's the master cylinder failing.

sounds like time to upgrade to aftermarket levers and an aftermarket slave cylinder... you know...
Its not the lever hanging up or anything like it needs to be lubricated. It is a good excuse however to upgrade to aftermarket ones ;D I will call up my dealer today. Thanks for the replies this place is just top notch [thumbsup]
