Title: 696 top end
Post by: Raux on June 17, 2009, 01:17:40 PM
well i maxed it today

on the 696 w 14t sprocket roads italia exhausts with dp limiters stock ECU
212/213 kph on the speedo when the rev limiter hit

probably would have been a bit more with full leathers (jeans with hard armor) and better aerodynamic helmet/hump combo.

i think the DP Ecu will give another 1000rpm (others input here please)

Randall thinks you can probably squeeze out another 13 kph...

If you maxed it out with by hitting the rev limiter, there's not much else to make you faster other than changing gearing or the ECU.  Go back to the 15t sprocket or get the DP ECU to bump the rev limiter up another 500rpm if you want to go faster.  Aerodynamics or power aren't the issue at this point.

eh not looking for more really, just reporting to you guys. figured you stateside guys don't get much chance to do that. but i may swap to 15t and see what i can do.

so the DP ecu gives 500 more?

I believe it bumps redline to 10,500. Haven't had a chance to test that yet [evil]

"No  [leo], I swear it was just research for the DMF", Raux said as he was being put into the squad car.

Where might you be that you can do that?

I get too scared whenever I go over 150 kph so  [bow_down] to Raux

open section of autobahn... germany!

i guess officially it's 195.96 kph since there's an 8% error built into the speedos.

but seriously glad i don't have a 1198 or something. research would be scary fast.

Now that is cool.  My non-traveling ass from North Carolina invisions the Autoban as this illustrious stretch of unrestricted highway littered with Porshe, Ferrari, Lotus, and Mercedes jockeying for position as their drivers, dare I say, race for their brands supremesy.

That's true for some parts of it, although there are also parts with speed cameras.  It's mostly German cars, lots of VWs too.

The drivers there are much better about staying to the right unless passing.  It's a nice drive/ride. [thumbsup] [moto]

previously we had talked about this, but the ones to be careful of are the BMW, Audi and Mercedes station wagons. they will be doing 240+

staying out of the left lane is not only the law, but also a safe thing to do. i was doing 180 the other day and had an audi avant blow past me.

there are speed cameras and they are serious about following the limits. but unlike the states instead of jail for a certain amount over they just take your license for a time. had a friend that was doing like 60kph over and had it taken for a month. typically if you are more than 30kph over it's more serious than just a fine.

the normal recommended speed in unlimited areas is 130kph. and that is also the most common posted limit. it's still faster than the states.

but you will find the limits are for reasons, city exits, bad roads, construction, etc. not just because they want them.

Autobahn feeling: returning home from a trip to Italy, after 2 hours in a traffic jam, the road opening up from 2 lanes to 5, going 195kph uphill in the left lane (4 others were slower). Then seeing a Porsche in your rear view mirror tailgating; trying to tell you to move your slow ass out of the way.

Well, I think this proves that a 14t sprocket wont take away top end. Tested top speed on a stock 15t 696 is 129-131mph.. 213kmh is 132.35mph.. So you gained top end... I was only able to get 131mph in full tuck on a straight smooth road.. Motor was limited by drag, not rev limiter..(I'm not that heavy)

don't forget the 8% speedo correction. my corrected speed is about 121. so i lost about 10mph top end.

That's a dillemma all drivers have, autobahn or not. Should you have to slow way down by moving over into a lane slower than your current speed, just so another driver behind you can go faster?

Obviously, the "stay right except to pass," rule is clearcut when staying right is no hardship to do, but if technically you were in the process of passing cars in all the four lanes to your right, were you obligated to move over for the Porsche?

yes as soon as possible. turn your right blinker on so the porsche knows you are attempting to move over.

Well I did move over right after I passed the car to my right. What I meant to say is sometimes you think you're going fast but when something like that happens you know it's all relative.

for sure. nothing like getting past like you are standing still by a testarossa while you are doing 135mph in a BMW
