Title: Rear brake light bulb is out. One filament gone.
Post by: EEL on June 18, 2009, 10:14:19 AM
My light bulb is out on my rear brake light. It turns on when I brake, but the dimmed setting thats constantly on is not working. I'm assuming its a 2 stage bulb. I had to replace it on my old bike it noticed its a standard type used in most cars. Anyone know the part number is? (NOT the ducati part number but the actual one). I wanted to pick one up from a local Auto store today.

Thanks

Should be an 1157 or a 1257. Both should work. Just take it out and match it up.

Pay the extra cents (or dollars) for a heavy duty bulb.  It will last much longer.  I think I went through four or five rear bulbs in the six years that I had my Monster.  When I finally put in a heavy duty bulb it lasted as long as the bike did.

The bulb on my friend's 999 always burns out - especially since the bike has had a tail chop - the vibration from his beast causes the filament to snap

Yes, the heavy duty one lasts longer -the only other way is to go LED

I think the bulb is a P21 5watt

So I have a question, how do you drill mini holes like that?

Be sure to use Lexan (polycarbonate)

I looked at the plans and why wouldn't a proto board from digikey work just as well. They come predrilled and they are easy to cut. Or conversely why lexan?

I was wondering the same thing myself. Why lexan. I just figured it might be a heat issue. Lexan does have a fairly good resistance to temperature.

Just a guess. I'm as confused about it as you are.
