Title: A plea to owners of older monsters.......
Post by: hooligan machinist on June 21, 2009, 05:30:28 PM
I know there have been a thousand and one questions about clip-ons on this board so please be patient with me.
I'm going to replace the bars on my 97M750 with clip-ons. Also going to need all new controls and levers. It's my undersanding that the coffin style reservoirs will have to go and some shorty or adjustable levers might be awesome. If you have done this mod please tell me what brand names and model numbers you used. Any pitfalls encountered, any info at all will be greatly appreciated. Even the smartass comments, please lemme have it! ;D
Will send   [bacon]

There are some clip-ons that work with coffin masters without spacers, off hand I can't remember a particular brand, though [bang].  Jeff (monsterparts) is or was getting spacers from a company called Corsair

You might try an email to Jeff, Motowheels and California Cycleworks since they are all good at knowing what works with what they sell.

Another option could be Suburban Machinery bars, an old school alternative to clip-ons     http://www.suburban-machinery.com/duchypmoto.html (http://www.suburban-machinery.com/duchypmoto.html)
The drilled holes for the controls won't match, but that's no biggie.

You might want to post the parts you need for the repair and see what we can scrounge up for you.

You can surely make some spacers mate, I've seen what you can do with machines.

I've got a set of the older, fixed, rizoma clip ons w/ 999 masters.  Tom (Monstermash) did the original work, but I've had it apart and besides the different hydro lines needed, nothing special was required for that particular set up.

I run the ones from monster parts (Tommaselli's) and they are great. Setup take a little bit because they are SOO adjustable but I would not trade emm. I had them too low at first and made an adjustment on the way to work the next morning and they are perfect. I have not had to adjust them in over a year. I do still have the coffins (I plan to change this after I get my engine sorted) and do run the spacers that Jeff sells. I've also done 400+ mile days around NJ and PA and 250+ miles days looping around Deals Gap. I'm 23 so maybe a little more limber than most but my knees tend to want to give out well before my wrists, arms, or back.
