Title: turn signals Post by: zedsaid on June 22, 2009, 01:29:50 PM I'm tired of rear turn signals that break off if you look at them the wrong way. (Yup M696) Anyone have a suggestion? I'm getting integrated rear lights when they come out... but in the meantime...

I'm not a big fan of integrated tail lights. They look nice, but visibility seems to be a bit lacking. :-\ Title: Re: turn signals Post by: Monster Dave on June 22, 2009, 01:55:00 PM I have an integrated tail light/turn signals (LED) by Clear Alternatives. Looks great and is very clean looking. Best of all it fits exactly as the stock tail light does. [thumbsup]

Title: Re: turn signals Post by: roggie on June 22, 2009, 02:02:00 PM mine dont break off... but the rear right goes out every other day... something with the contact on the bulb i think, because i can clean it off and its good for another short stint... Title: Re: turn signals Post by: ada722 on June 22, 2009, 02:24:11 PM I installed the Rizoma Tracks in the front and the Zeros in the rear. Included load box is required all around, and obtained normal blink rate with supplied resistors installed in just the rears.
My buddy mentioned he could barely make out my stock blinkers during the day, but can now easily see the rizomas during our day time rides. Jam some LEDs in the frame - problem solved! ;D Title: Re: turn signals Post by: zedsaid on June 22, 2009, 02:31:54 PM Jam some LEDs in the frame - problem solved! ;D I've thought of it, i just really want something that's not on a stalk. Mmmmm, not sure what you mean re 'stalk': mine sit flush with the end of the frame. (http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm47/roy-nexus-6/tailchop_LED_2.jpg) I got the idea from a really old thread - turns out a few people had also done this mod. I made a thread about it ages ago... over here! http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=1333.0 (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=1333.0) Title: Re: turn signals Post by: zedsaid on June 22, 2009, 02:50:55 PM Mmmmm, not sure what you mean re 'stalk': mine sit flush with the end of the frame. If there was i'd to exactly that. Title: Re: turn signals Post by: roy-nexus-6 on June 22, 2009, 02:58:43 PM That's sick... unfortunately on the 696 there's no tube there. If you have a chopped tail, is the bottom of the license plate lower than the pipes? If so, you could mount indicator under your license plate - and you would still have side-on visibility. That's one of the reasons i want the integrated/flush lights. The lights are already really a hindrance to putting any type of bag on the back, and when i "chop" the tail, they'll be even closer to the pillion. The indicators mount on stalks either side of the top of the license plate - they can be seen from the side if they are mounted here. Something like this might be of use to you. The stalks are only 20mm, and the headlights are only 33mm dia... so basically, you'd end up with two teardrop indicators immediately either side of the license plate.. and they wouldn't stick out as far the sides of the seat, they'd be completely tucked away. In this picture, the spacer is still in the stalk, which makes them longer (about 50mm). Take that out, and youve got a super short stalk. Title: Re: turn signals Post by: roy-nexus-6 on June 22, 2009, 07:45:41 PM are those made out of metal or ? I honestly don't know - I found them by googling 'small round motorcycle LED indicators'... and this website popped up: http://www.norbsa02.freeuk.com/goffyleds.htm (http://www.norbsa02.freeuk.com/goffyleds.htm) Materials aren't mentioned in the product description. I figure they would only just peek out either side of the license plate if a tail chop kit was used... so they would should be nicely out of the way. Title: Re: turn signals Post by: z0mb1e_DUC on June 23, 2009, 02:54:19 AM I've got Rizoma Zero-11's with an R&G tail. Went this route cause, big surprise, I broke one of the stockers.
Lights sit either side of plate, towards top. They are high enough to be seen over the Termi's. Best part is they are short enough that they do not stick out farther than the edge of the seat/cowl. And they can be seen from the side. Will probably do them on the front as well. I really like that the pulse is readily seen from the sides. There's no comparison with the front stock blinkers. Much better. Title: Re: turn signals Post by: Takster on June 23, 2009, 05:49:46 AM Sounds like the OP hasn't done a tail-chop yet. The way that the stock rear signals are mounted, it makes it REALLY easy to knock them off. Very easy for a light bump or careless leg-throwover to result in a dangling signal.
The lucky (i guess) thing about this is that the part that breaks isn't the signal or stalk itself, but rather the piece that it's mounted to... in the non-chopped case, this is a flimsy little piece of plastic that's part of the hideous rear fender. I haven't heard of anybody having issues like this after doing a tail-chop. I'm sure that the CW or DP fender eliminator kit will work great. At least until any integrated options come out (not my thing, but sounds like the OP has that in mind specifically.) Title: Re: turn signals Post by: ab on June 23, 2009, 07:32:25 AM Went with Rizoma Avio 21 LED Turn Signal front and back.
