Title: Nutritional Information
Post by: He Man on June 24, 2009, 07:57:43 AM
Does anyone know if nutritional facts on the back of packages of foods that need to be cooked, are of the nurtritional fact before its cooked or after its been cooked with no extra stuff (such as being steamed heated).

Frozen foods is what comes to mind.

I have noticed that it usually says on packaging.

If you are really that curious, why not call the customer service number on the product.

Some packages will give both post- and pre-cooked nutritional information.

In the case of frozen foods I'm pretty sure it is usually typical preparation following the instructions on the package.

I don't think there's a huge difference unless you're frying it up in olive oil or something, but I've been wrong before.

I would assume its pre cooked, unless its something like chicken wings that are already cooked and all your doing is reheating. But pre or post, i dont think end result is much different from the start.

ahh. that one works for me. If prepared a certain way, this is the expected nutritional value.

I'm thinking if you had a frozen package of Carrots and you boiled them , you would loose a lot of the nutritioal value in the cooking process in the water used.

call the cust. svc line anyway. You can stretch a dumb question a long way and listen to creative answers. It's cheaper than cable tv.

That's why you either steam them, or drink the juice...

Look at it this way.

If it tastes good, its probably bad for you.

They can easily fudge those numbers due to portion size and other variables.

If you can (and I know it isn't cheap, or easy) use fresh ingredients to make dishes to replace frozen of prepossessed foods.  Its much better for you if your worried about that sort of thing.
