Title: Can Chop Heat Shield (S*R)
Post by: He Man on June 27, 2009, 02:09:02 PM
What did you guys do with your heat shields when you cored/ and shortened your stock cans? Mine looks like it would need to have some extra work done to make it look original, or i could just cut it and round the edge out. and call it a day. I cut my cans so now instead of a DUCATI, i have a CUCATI but the C is backwards lol

you could shape it by hand (cut/grind/etc). are the ends of the shield rolled? or is it just flat sheet?

I cored my cans last weekend. I did not shorten them as I like the stock length (non-chopped tail) so I had the privilage of doing a lot of dremmel work instead of being able to shortcut cutting though the can in one cut.  [bang]

For my shield, I left the stock holder for the side closest to the engine and held the other on like a nut while tightening the shield on.

So, long story short. I cannot help ya out at all.  :)

 [laugh]!!!!

I could shape it by hand, but im pretty lazy cause i ride the bike so damn much, i cant really find time to pretty her up. The only reason i have the stock exahust on is to prevent my ass from getting a 9th ticket. I already got 8 this year alone.

the end of the sheild is curved with a 1cm radius all around. i could recreate it if i really wanted to. the hard part would be the corner though. i shorted it a good 2-3 inches. maybe more im not sure cause i chopped it 3 times.

with those cans if you remove the bolts from the hanger the aluminum cans slide right off. then you do the chop without touching the outer cans. When you put it together you can can just rivet them back in place from the back so the rivets don't show. and tada you have cored cans that don't look like they have been chopped unless you get a bit dirty from going under the bike.

You could take off the entire rounded off section from the entire heat shield, but that would probably be pretty dangerous with it being pretty damn sharp.

I think the "hard work" approach is going to be your only real option besides getting a set of stock length bodies and putting those on with your internals.

Sorry, I fixed my previous post. You have a metal shield not a carbon one correct?

Did everyone else miss the 8 tickets part?!?!?!?!? :o  I hope all of 'em are parking tickets and not moving violations.

I used a Rizoma shield until the Arrows went on.

This might not help you buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut.......

I had the top can mounting screw holes filled in by a welder.  Then ground smooth.... sanded a bit...  then paint/coat.

I ceramic coated my cans and you cannot tell there was ever a shield on top.

so... in a way... I might be of any help either. :P

thanks for the offer, but this exahust system gets taken off when the ticket blitz dies down.
if you had it filled by a welder, i guess i can just throw two button head bolts on it and call it a day.  Bike sounds awesome with the few inches cored off. My friend took my bike around the block. holy crap does it sound mean.

8 parking tickets. 4 equipments, 4 parkings. 2 just last week.
