Title: crap
Post by: Grampa on June 29, 2009, 12:33:02 PM
This morning I stopped by my father inlaws shop to drop off a clock movement for him to replace. While I was there, his employee asked if I could take an injured cat she had found near her apartment to the SPCA for her.

Dropping it off was probably one of the hardest things I've ever done.

While I stood in line (5 people back), I counted no less than 65 cats/kittens being dropped off.   :'(

Most of them were in traps set by a local couple who are paid to remove cats from vacant properties. They had about 25 traps with them.

The nice lady who took the kitten from me was furious. I don't blame her. Knowing that only a few will be adopted and the others put to sleep made me sick to my stomach.

Isn't there a humane society up there? ie: no kill facility.

That's awful. :(

There are a few no-kill shelters (http://www.kernlife.com/home/ViewPost/8372) in Bakersfield in addition to the SPCA's own facility, but with that many being dropped off at once, I imagine they're beyond capacity as it is.

Unfortunately, no-kill shelters only work because there are also open-door shelters (aka "kill") shelters in the same vicinity.

No shelter can find homes for all the strays. :(

Don't get me started on the irresponsible people who contribute to the pet overpopulation problem. :-X

Iowa, Joel...LOADS of land for your homeless animal shelter AND I could pretty much 99% guarantee you a job here.

Andthe flying leap onto the back attack is one that Kitteh needs to practice...of course, it would help if Kitteh wasn't outweighed by 15 lbs...

Without knowing what the interior looks like, 137k for a house that size on that much land seems like a good deal to me...

almost.

lm put a big assed bell on him so we would know where he was and not step on him [laugh]

on the video he sounds like an alpine downhill ski event
