Title: Radar Detectors
Post by: tebok on June 30, 2009, 06:24:09 AM
Do any of you guys have any strong suggestions on what type of radar detector to get?  I'm leaning toward the Valentine1.  Any and all input is welcome.

Thanks, TeBok

I bought my gf a V1 last year, right around Thanksgiving, for the Crossfire Roadster she bought, and she returned the favor a couple months ago after I bought a Porsche Boxster.

The arrows do rock, but the main thing the detectors do is they help you identify what type of signals to really keep an eye out for. If you drive the same route all the time, you can get to know how many signals there should be in an area, and what type. If you're going through the same area, and there's a new signal type, you are a little more wary, and can slow down.

The other week I was driving up I-25 in my car to Loveland, and as I crested one hill, I got a brief signal for Ka band in an area I normally don't see anything. I slowed down, and as I crested the next hill, it went full bore Ka, and there were two State Troopers in the center median, tagging both sides of the highway.

Without the warning, I would have most likely earned a performance award as the guy who was behind me whipped on past, after I slowed down, and changed to the middle lane. He got the award instead.

BC.

Happy with my Beltronics Pro RX65 coupled with the HARD System.

I've found most LEOs are not running Laser in the hills where we ride (they need the long straight like freeways, etc). I've had a turn or two of warning when they cruise with radar on.

'Zactly.

Here in NH it's the same way - most LEOs run with their K band blasting, so you get to know far, far in advance.

I generally go with the flow of traffic on the highway as its too easy for laser / aircraft coverage.
