Title: 696 Running Rough and RPM question
Post by: dutchy73 on June 30, 2009, 04:14:58 PM
Hey guys,

I feel like this may have been brought up before, so forgive me for asking again.

1) I have about 3000 miles on the 696 and I feel like it's starting to run rougher then normal. On my ride into work today, I noticed that if I hold the rpm's around 4000-4500, it runs rough and at some point, it feels like it skips every so often. Also, the popping on deceleration seems to have increased. Maybe the bike is running too rich? But isn't that controlled electronically? Advice on what I should do here and what the cause might be. Has this happened to anyone else? Oh, I also have Termi's and have the DP ecu installed.

2) what are you folks keeping your average rpm's at when cruising? Both on highway (around 80mph) and on roads (around 45mph).

thanks all,

-theo

I asked the same question about rpms at when cruising.  General consensus- 4-6k rpms [thumbsup]

Call your dealer and make sure your coils are wired correctly.

+1

I took mine in for a similar issue and the recall notice and found out there were 3 other service bulletins that needed to be checked.

One more thing to check is cam belt tension.  I had some popping on deceleration and generally rough running.
Changing the belts (and proper tension) made a surprising difference.  Cleared the popping completely.
