Title: Relocation follow-up
Post by: sugarcrook on May 20, 2008, 07:02:26 AM
I asked on TOB about suggestions for relocating to the Bay.  After much looking and fending off house-hunting depression, I found a really nice place in San Jose.  It's farther out than I wanted, but the house is great, has a large garage and seems to be in a nice area.

The move is on June 7th.  You've been warned.  :)

Thanks.  I'm not ready yet, but I've got a couple weeks.  After 4 years in Chicago, looking forward to getting the hell out of here.

That's won't help you if you're not used to mountain roads.

I would recommend going on a noob ride before trying to follow the local fanatics at high-speed.

So you're implying that the straight, flat roads in the Midwest are significantly different from twisting, interesting roads in the PRC?

Oh wait.  That's why I'm moving.  Carry on.

That's yellow damn-it.  [laugh]

I love how Yellow bike owners always point out the color of their bike as if it had something to do with the situation. (...and I always did that too with my yellow monster.  ;) )

Did we happen to mention the cliffs that usually live on one side of the windy roads?

You'll be just fine when you get to know the roads. I highly recommend some joy rides at a crawl along Highway 1 until you get used to seeing breathtaking jaw-dropping beauty and ocean scenes around each turn. Else we fish you out of the Pacific.   [laugh]

PS
Don't let anyone squid-talk you into proving anything.
(smack talk ahead) Especially them south-bay types!  [evil]

Sort of like constantly whining about how one rides an 848?

I used to get so much attention on my bright yellow GS500F.  Drove my ex-boyfriend nuts, as people would completely ignore his modded up Aprilia RSVR Mille Factory and come up to me instead.  I told him there were two reasons:
- I'm a girl.
- It's yellow!

Also don't try to follow/keep up with the SuperMoto's... it will only lead to bad things.

So the move actually happened on June 9th and I got into San Jose late last night.  The bikes are dirty as hell but I'll try to clean one of them to make it to the MOB night tonight.

Cool, looking forward to meeting you.

And don't worry too much about a dirty bike, you wouldn't be the only one.

I may try to get down there from the city depending on traffic. It gets pretty stinky at 6:pm

We'll see. Never been to a So. Bay Duc Night. See you there hopefully.

I'd recommend 280 all the way down from SF.

It's usually not too bad, and it's certainly much better than dealing with the narrowed lanes of 101 around Burlingame and San Mateo because of construction. Plus the road surface is just plain crappy through there as well.

Hope you can make it!  [beer]

Huzzah and Welcome!

As others have said, you're going to be going  :o :o :o for the first few months' worth of rides.

After that you'll be all [coffee] like the rest of us

Don't sweat it. The rule around here (DMF rides, anyway) is to ride at your own comfortable pace, and regroup at turnoffs. So go out, have fun, and be safe!
