The random cardboard boxes that were part of my Duc aquisition included a pair of older, slightly battle-tested Napoleon bar-end mirrors. Same kind as shown here, but not as recent a model:

Since I'm working with a $3 plastic baby stroller mirror jammed into my left handlebar, and since I'm kinda digging the look of the Napoleons (as well as the prospect of being able to see behind me for a change...), I'm thinking about bolting them on.
Other than minor rash and a slight bend to the right-hand side one, I appear to be missing the allen bolts and expanders that would anchor these mirrors to the bar... would the allen bolts and expanders from a typical bar-end weight do the trick, or is there some unique aspect of the Napoleons that would prevent this?
Sorry for the lack of detail and measurements... I don't know any of the dimensions of the Napoleons.

You can use a piece of fuel hose as an expander. A trip to a good hardware store should set you with an an allen bolt, washer and nut. The bolts can be metric or not, they just need to be long enough and not too much smaller than the hole
I may have an extra one laying around, I'll have to look....If I do, I'd be happy to send it to you!!
My S4 bars have a threaded hole, so I had to shave the collar off w/a milling bit to make it flush w/the end of the bar, then just bolt them to the end of the bar...
-Long story short, I didn't use the original bolt/expander...I'll let you know if I find it!! :)

OK, I've got extra hose, so I think I'm going to give this a shot... does it matter what kind of washer or nut I'm using?
I'll take a picture of the hard ware from mine. currently not mounted. The nut has grooves in it that grab the rubber expander so you can tighten everything.

A lock washer and flat washer will do the same thing if you can't find the type of nut Sause is describing.
ya if you don't have something to lock it to the rubber it will just spin forever
I used the expansion bolts from the stock barends. I had to drill out the mirrors to fit the bolt head, but then it worked perfectly Nice and flush.

Update- they're on, but they won't stay tight.
I used the hardware store bolt, nut, lock washer, and fuel hose chunk as recommended earlier in the thread. My new issue is that they seem to want to work loose from vibration, and especially when subjected to highway speeds.
I've tried the following:
Tightening. It just seems to cause the fuel hose to swell and push out from the bar.
Different pieces of hose. Thought the pieces might be too slick or not expanding enough within the bar.
Abraded the hose and inside of bar w/ sandpaper to increase grip. Seemed to work better than just tightening until yesterday.
Current arrangement goes (from inside of bar to outside...) :
nut - split washer - approx. 1" of fuel line - washer for end of bar - split washer - bar end mount - washer/bolt head.
I'll try to post some pics later.
Any advice appreciated.

more fuel line. at least 2 inches. This will give you more surface area inside the bar.
Hair spray on the hose may help.
Tried howie's fix with my ol' ladies can of White Rain. Seems good after a quick scoot down the block.
That said, I did also tamper with my washer set-up... instead of a lock washer between the bar end and the outer edge of the fuel line piece, I located a larger washer that covers the hole in the end of the bar better. It's just big enough to cover the bar opening w.o interfering with the throttle... it seems like the bar-end clamped down flush against that better. It also seems like the hose isn't pushing out against the larger washer like it did against the smaller ones.
But that could be teh stiction from the hairspray.
Thanks again for the advice, and if history is any indication... I'll be posting asking for more help in about 14-20 days.

The daily commute includes 15 miles at +/- 70mph, and no shifting to report. I think the hairspray was the cure.

I mentioned that they were worse for wear, but most of the damage seems to be cosmetic. Since I'm going to be working the tank dents out, there's some paint in the forecast this winter. The barends will probably get whatever treatment the tank gets.
Some posted pics of the Krylon chalkboard paint on a tank in another thread, and that got me thinking... ;D
